By pulling the cover.

What's so scary about that?

Everything else is just a bunch of guessing.

Find out your speed at two different speeds, write down the rpm's and go here:

http://www.richmondgear.com/101032.html

If you have an overdrive gear, chane it from 1.00 to whatever is your overdrive ratio.

Not hard to do.

Alot easier than jacking up the camaro and pulling the cover.

And since the gear oil may never have been changed (how many miles are on the car?) yanking the cover to absolutely verify the gearing is a good excuse for changing the fluid.

The numbers are stamped on the ring and pinion.

42 : 13 = 3.23 (RPO GU5) / Approx. RPM’s at 70 mph--2133
41 : 11 = 3.73 (RPO GT4) / Approx. RPM’s at 70 mph--2463

Re: 3.23 or 3.73?

Going off memory my 88 IROC is GU5 Posi and I am not sure about the RPO on my 92 RS but it is stock auto so....probably not the greatest. My question is it better to have a 2.23 vs 2.77 or in other words the higher number the better or visa versa.

Higher number. Personally, I'd ditch the highway gears for more grunt--I like 3.23's as an all around gear.

thanks James C...I meant 3.23 for my IROC (or whatever GU5 is)...not 2.23...I have a true Posi in the IROC but not in the RS....I should of did the swap when we did the fuel pump-gas tank drop....

Did pull the cover this spring on the IROC and it was almost bone dry with a bad seal...previous owner had not checked....but got her sealed and lubed up and noticed and immediate diference in performance..
