1LE DS part # for U joint
About 8 years back when LS1 stuff was still expensive, I bought a 1LE drive shaft or I think it is. Bottom line it is alum but about 2.5 dia. Point is I had lost a cap and other OE caps didn't fit!? So I decided to replace the U, I pulled it out and tried to replace it. Now I'm SOL because no one seems to have the right u joint. The ones I keep getting are too big...I'd like to put this in my 92. Any help???

Re: 1LE DS part # for U joint
Thanks so much, there had to have been 2 sizes. Now I just need to find the u joint. I took it off so I need to find it. Drive shaft is a spicer F2899 and p# on the cap is 5211. So whats a 1310/1330?
Thanks again

Re: 1LE DS part # for U joint
Standard GM u-joints for third gens are called Saginaw 3R. They're not a typical Spicer size.
According to napaonline, the aluminum driveshaft uses a Precision 369 at the transmission and a 372 at the diff.
Precision 369 is Spicer 5-153X which is a 1310 series u-joint
Precision 372 is Spicer 5-3022X which is a combination u-joint with 1310 on one axis and Saginaw 3R on the other which will fit into the diff yoke.
With the Precision or Spicer number, you should be able to find these at any parts store.

Yeah every parts store has one, but not the one that fits the 1LE DS 2.5". I can get it for my LS1 3" dia DS.

Thanks ALKY I agree, seems to make the most sense! I'll take the DS to Napa just in case...

The 3" driveshaft should use 1330 or more likely, 1350 u-joints.

Note: Steel dr shafts are 2 1/2 dia.
2 3/4 1LE aluminum 3rd gen & 4th gen (LT1 cars)
3 aluminum 4th gen LS1 cars
Same for both auto & manual transmissions.
