Do I have a bad 700r4?
I've noticed this problem for maybe 4 months but it's gotten worse. It started out only when I was in reverse, the transmission I'm guessing would make this almost stretching sound when I had the brakes on. Now it's spread to first gear too! I can even hear it when I'm in drive sometimes when I'm stopped. It really sucks.

The oldschool cartoon stretching sound is the closest I could come up with. The next closest would be a knife scraping on metal.

Well it puzzles me too. (in all gears) When I'm stopped I hear this weird noise. It sounds kind of like metal on metal. Like a rubbing sound, I thought maybe it's the torque converter, but I really don't know. It sounds like it is coming from the front.

Sounds like the converter.I had a 77 chevy van that was all hot-rodded out.It started making the same noise, wouldn't move anymore or do anything. We narrowed it down and replaced the converter and it did the trick.

I have a similar problem. my mechanic said it's the tranny pump going out. as time has gone on in the 6 months that I've had my car, I've noticed the sound getting progressively worse. wheather it's actually the pump it not - my tranny needs rebuilding. it doesn't quite shift properly and it shutters in reverse.
he also said it may be something else but I don't recall at this time what it was.
something starting with a c. lol...(coulda been converter as mentioned above)
