700r4 1989 - Questions about Sprags
Hi all!
I'm currently building a hopefully longer-lasting transmission than my rebuilds before and in order to do that, I'll drop in some more new parts than just some new steels+clutches+seals.
I found that one element of my Lo/Reverse Sprag was missing, so I ordered a new sprag (borg warner, don't know the part number right now), which is a slightly differrent design than the original one (should be 4l65 specs). The old one has a little bit taller but thinner elements.
My problem is:
The sprag fits perfectly into the center support.
And the sprag fits perfectly around the inner sprag race (i think the "center part" is called like that ).
BUT: All 3 Parts doesn't fit in each other at the same time. It seems that the elements are pressed slightly to the center so that the inner part doesn't fit anymore.
Would it be safe to mill off the inner part by some 1/1000s in order to get it fitted in?
Or could I mistakenly have got a 82-86 Part for my 87+ Tranny? I've seen that there are differences regarding the lo/reverse sprags in those years.
Thats how it should look like when it's done.
Hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance
Alex
