Engine: 2.8L V6
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: B.W 9Bolt 3.27 Posi
how to check rear end.
i wanna know how i can check a posi rear end thats off a car to see if it works or if its bad without putting it on my car. if its possible can someone please let me know. i probably have to test it by installing it and using it huh?

You use a torque wrench on one end to see how much torque it takes to break free.

I have heard that recommended in the past. Do you know what breakaway torque means the posi is shot? I get that a lower number is worse, but what do they spec at new?. Different for an Auburn vs. a BW unit?

I had to dig up a few old service manuals. I can't find a specific torque for the 7.5" diff but from what I've found, something from 150-200 pounds of torque is considered normal. I think if it's less than 100, you can consider it worn out. Even very old (pre 1970) locking diffs had a low rating of 80 but that could just be because of the old design.
