Torque converter bushing and seal ?
What's up. Two questions for you guys. I just pulled the 700r4 out of my 91 camaro to replace the front seal. First question is what happens to this seal that causes it to leak. The one that I pulled from the tranny looked ok to me but I have no doubt that it was leaking. I pulled the converter cover off and when I would start the car it would fling fluid everywhere plus when I would turn the car off you could see the fluid running down the back side of the converter. Second question is that i read on hear.... while the tanny is out to check the bushing and see if it is worn. What exactly am I looking for in a worn bushing? Nothing looks worn to me and I really don't want to go any deeper in this trans than I have to. Thanks

Re: Torque converter bushing and seal ?
There is a "drain back" hole behind the seal that gets overwhelmed with too much oil so it has to go somewhere and it goes around the seal. Enlarging the drain back hole is pretty standard with high performance rebuilds.
Your pump shouldn't need to have the front bushing staked because GM added a lip for the bushing to seat against in the late '80s.
Here's an article on 700r4 pump modifications:

Re: Torque converter bushing and seal ?
Remove the pump and replace the pump bushing&seal and look at the torque converter hub.
