Car: 1986 Pontiac Trans Am
Engine: 5.0
Transmission: 700R4
700r4 shifting late

hello fellow enthusiasts im having problems with my transmission shifting late in drive or overdrive i think it has a 700r4, i have already readjusted the TV cable and fluid is correct operating level and clean it does not feel like its slipping and does not shift hard any other suggestions?

MAybe a problem with the governor.

thanks ill check it out. but i was thinking if maybe the previous owner added less weights to the governor to increase the shift points already. if this is true would i hurt anything if i just use the car for everyday driving? it has a high way gear in the differential so that lead me to believe somebody altered the shift points. all i know right now is the car is fast lol, and it goes through the gears alittle quicker when i punch it (WOT)

nope never saw Blazing Saddles. i figured the "GOV" on the guys coat meant governor especially since this thread is discussing the governor in a transmission im 28

ok update: the transmission shifts fine from first to second but when it shifts from second to drive it shifts at like 2000 which i know something is wrong any suggestions?
