how to build a street/strip 700r4

I'm looking to rebuild my 700r4 and I've heard that you can lock up your tc early and it can help performance. This makes sense, but is it best to wire it to a switch or is there a way to build it and make it lock up under a certain point of throttle? I looked it up on google but surprisingly didn't really find a good answer on how this works.

I'm going to have a transgo shift kit installed.

I'm also looking for a 9.5in tc.

I'm going to either have 3.23 or 3.73 rear gears. The car is just going to be a streetable car (looking for at least 350-400~hp crank) that sees the track a few times a yr. Should be at least12sec car. Opinions on 3.23 vs 3.73s?

Is there anything else I can do? I plan to drive it normally but also do a lot of manual shifting as well.

Thanks

From Dana @ Probuilt:
If the torque converter is matched to the motor correctly, and it is "normally asperated", do not lock up the clutch in the quarter mile. If you lock up the clutch and have a "gain", then the TC is not made correctly. The only time you should lock up the clutch might be when it is turbo charged, and then only in the top of 3rd gear. Plus, you need to have a triple disc to hold the higher horsepower. The single disc is not designed to hold the horsepower at WOT. There are always exceptions, but this is the rule to follow, from what I have seen and experienced over the years.
I highly recommend Probuilt. I got their "Street/Strip" kit (which is what you are after) for my '89 700R4. As well as a 9.5" Edge torque converter. Give Dana a shout, he is very helpful and can answer all your questions.

3.73 + the 3.06:1 T700 1st gear + 400Hp + street tires = a 1st gear that is virtually useless
if your engine can pull 6K + you might get some use out of 3.73's on the street

With a ECM you could program lockup at any point;
otherwise you run a manual switch and remember to turn it on when required during a run at the strip
