Transmission blues.

Okay, so I am not POSITIVE if it is my transmission or not. But I have been experiencing some new problems. For starters I have an 89' Iroc with the stock T-5. The engine, is not stock, its a unknown mid 70's 350. Engine doesn't seem to be the problem.

SO, recently moving out of first gear when I start the car (in the cold mind you, don't know if that could cause it) I have to get it up to outrageous revs to move. Now, before I could ignore this because I thought snow was in front of the wheels. However, there was no snow on the road today. After it warms up a bit, there doesn't seem to be an issue. But that brings us to another problem.

Now, in every gear, when I accelerate, my car violently shakes. It used to be in 5th gear only, now it does it in 3rd,4th and 5th. Also, as of recent, I noticed that it occasionally squeaks when I am letting off the clutch from a complete stop. Those are the only things I can think of right now. But its bothering me a ton. This car ran fine during winter last year. Someone help?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Transmission blues.

Its pissed off you are trying to drive it in the snow, lol.

But in all seriousness can you describe this shaking and squeaking? If I had to take a wild guess it sounds like your clutch is toast and is slipping & chattering and doing bad things.

Has the clutch been replaced lately? When this violent shaking occurs in the higher gears, do the RPMs climb without the speed increasing?

Re: Transmission blues.

It's possible. I am always worried my car is going to disassemble itself before I can pay attention. I am painting her this coming spring and I was planning on an new engine and trans in 2015. But I did want to drive through the summer.

The clutch was APPARENTLY replaced before I bought it last year in November. Don't know if that's true or not, the PO had lots of papers but nothing about a new clutch. Someone suggested in a different thread that the drive-train could be unaligned?

Re: Transmission blues.

Well next time the roads are dry, put it in a higher gear going down the road, 4th is probably good, and floor the gas, if the RPMs rise and the speed doesn't your clutch is probably slipping and should be replaced.

I know paint makes em look pretty, god knows mine desperately needs a new paint job, but I believe if you are on a tight budget you should get it running reliably first, then save for paint. A pretty car with a nice new paint job is only good if you can drive it and show her off, no use painting it all up to sit in your driveway/garage, lol.
