Shifter raises 2-3'' at WOT....?
Hi,
I just bought an 86 Iroc, and I didn't notice this when I looked at it, but last night driving it home from the warehouse I had it stored at I was trying to show my friend that indeed, it is not fast. While doing this I noticed that at WOT the shifter raises up about two to three inches.
Now I know with the two hundred + furious horsepower unleashed at wide-open throttle, as my little 305 screams with freedom and support of the 2nd amendment, that the torque arm will naturally try to rise up as a salute to this exhibition of freedom, but I wouldn't imagine it would move that much.
I looked at it a bit earlier but I'm wearing nice clothes today and all of the fasteners seemed to be in the torque arm on the rear, as well as the front.
I really don't feel like trailering it over to one of my buddies shops with a dyno on a four post lift and making a pull under load to see what's going on, when I'm sure 1,425 people will tell me "My car did that it was xxx" and I can just sort it out when I get home later in my garage.
Anyways, just curious if there is a bushing or something that takes a dump. To be honest I haven't really looked under the car at all other than rolling under with a creeper while it was on drive-on ramps, haven't had time yet, but it's really bugging me.
Thanks.

Replace your transmission mount on the crossmember. You're right about the torque arm rising under load, and the trans mount is the only thing holding that end of the trans down. Use a good polyurethane mount and you won't have that problem for a long time to come.

Mount x3. Before you swap in poly, you might consider the following (that way if you do experience vibration, you'll be aware of the fix):

That's what I was thinking, but I figured these cars are 30 years old, and you guys would confirm what I was thinking.
If it vibrates fine. I'm just going to use this thing as a track toy anyways after I do some small upgrades to the brakes/suspension/rearend.
Any trans mount you guys recommend, and any other problems I should prevent while I'm down in that area? Car will be autocrossed, rallycrossed, drifted, and probably driven around for fun on the weekends with the T-Tops off to exhibit artists like AC/DC, Metallica, Foreigner to youths who have not been previously exposed to freedom.

Overlooked that like a champ...
I didn't know if there was any other preventative maintenance I should perform while I was under there.
