Car: 1985 pontiac firebird t-tops
Engine: 350 with 305 heads
Transmission: t-5
Axle/Gears: 4th gen rearend with 3.23 gears
gear question

i am kind of new here. i just picked up a 85 t/a. the kid told me it has a 4th gen 6 speed rearend with 3.23 gears. is there any way to verify this?

The fourthgen rear is wider by several inches. Drop the diff cover and take a peek at the gears. The following FAQ provides the ratio numbers.

Did you maintain the stock tire height? because changing that can throw the speedometer off too.

Not the car, the tires. If you change the diameter of the tires it will change the speedometer reading.

its go 235/55/17 with a fourth gen rear with 3.23 gears
