700r4 - possibly?

When I put it in Reverse it'd die. So I moved it into R and gave it gas and backed out of the lot. Got on the highway and it shifted from 2 - 3rd and it lost power. RPM would rev up but no power was getting to the wheels. It wouldn't move. I'd shut if off, wait a minute, start it back up and then put it in gear and it'd do the same thing. I'd head down the road about 45 mph for around 1/4 mile before I'd lose power. The engine would idle and rev up if I gave it gas but the wheels wouldn't turn. Any ideas what the problem could be?

OK. I will. It's still over on the Oregon Coast. I have to get it back home and then I'll give that a shot. Thanks for the suggestion, very appreciated.

Re: 700r4 - possibly?

From the symptoms you describe, it sounds like the 3-4 clutches are fried.

You can still drive it in manual 2nd.

It is automatic. It will drive for a very short period of time and then it will lost power. The engine continues to run, the rpms will rise if I give it gas but the car will not move forward.

Keeps the trans from up-shifting into 3rd. It'll at least allow you to drive it.

Well I can't remember if I went down to second. I believe I did, but am not certain. It's been a long week. I will try make sure to try when I get it back, on Saturday. Thanks.

Re: 700r4 - possibly?

I got it back, and dropped it off at the shop. In the mean time, I am looking for a transmission. I see one on craigslist for 200. It comes with a transfer case, off a suburban. I am wondering if it will still work on my car, or will any 700r4 work with my car, and how to tell if a tranny is good when it is not installed? Many thanks.
