New 4-speed Automatic

I have an 86 with a brand new tranny in her, the guy who i got it from said it had a corvette shift kit. Whenever i put it in overdrive and when it goes from 1st to second it kicks hard (variable on how hard). I was wondering if this is because of the shift kit or the new tranny or if somethings wrong? The transmission has 650-750 miles tops.

you sure he didn't say "corvette servo"? when I had my trans rebuilt I had one of these added. and, man what a difference! and if you get on it it hits second hard. if you just ease around it don't.

Re: New 4-speed Automatic

He wasnt specific, he just said "i put a corvette shift kit along with the transmission" its getting a little smoother, but no matter how hard im hitting it, it still gives it a kick

Also a friend said it could be my U-joint, could it be possible he skipped checking that?

Re: New 4-speed Automatic

The part throttle shifts should be smooth and get quicker and firmer with more throttle. If it shifts hard at part throttle and or the shifts get hard really quick with very little throttle increase, then the 2nd gear feed hole in the separator plate is probably too large, and the 2nd gear accumulator in the valve body with the 2nd gear accumulator that bolts to the separator plate is not setup correctly (mismatched with using the Corvette servo). This will wear out the transmission much quicker. I would add the TransGo full Shift kit if this a 1987 or older transmission. The valve body will have to come off to solve this. I can send you the instructions on how to do this so you get the smooth part throttle shifts and the shifts getting quicker and firmer with more throttle, or you can get my modified TransGo Shift kit. Give me a call and I will help you out on this.
