Strange noise

Hey everybody I'm new on here so bear with me. I have an 1982 z28 305 w/carb. I took it to the mechanic because I thought that I had a doughnut gasket going out and it sounded like an exhaust leak. It turns out the noise is coming from inside the bell housing inspection cover. When I step on the gas it sounds just like an exhaust leak. Everything on the tranny and engine seem to be fine, runs great shifts great. Can anyone shed some light on this ?

Did the mechanic you took it to remove the bellhousing access cover and make sure the torque converter bolts are tight ? The TC bolts loosening is a known trouble spot and the first thing that should be checked whenever any odd sounds begin coming from the TC area . It takes about 5 minutes to check this , with a 2 minute coffee break in between

Re: Strange noise

No he didn't. When I took it in I asked them to check the doughnut gasket for a leak, that's what he checked. He told me that there wasn't any exhaust leak and said it was coming from under the cover and that was that. Not going to use him anymore. I just needed some input because I didn't know if there were any vacuum lines or anything like that that maybe I could fix myself. i've just never heard of that down there before. Thank for your help.
