Hole in water pump?

Hey guys, my water pump is leaking really really bad (6 gallons + a day). I went to replace it and I found that the water was coming out a hole in the bottom of the pump. It faces foreward toward the pulley, and looks like a stock GM hole... but water leaks out of it like crazy. Did something break inside the pump and therefor the water is leaking out a hole that is normally just open, or did something fall or a screw break out of the water pump?
Thanks!
Douglas

Yep, somethings broken... that's a "weep hole", and water will drip from it when the pump's seal is shot.

like TomP says, you need to replace your water pump, and the hole is always there but when water comes out that hole, your pump is gone

Sorry I didn't get to see this. Yah, the hole is GM. THey put it there as a way to basically say "Hey, your water pump is ****ed."

Glad you got the pump fixed though.
