The pump pressure makes no diference if the regulator is set lower. A 100 psi plastic gear V8 pump and a 125 psi metal gear Vette V8 pump both hooked up to a 40 psi fuel pressure regulator will still both read 40 psi at the injectors. I opt for the A/C Delco Vette pumps with the metal internals only because they last longer.

You get more fuel flow with a v8 pump, but like was said, our v6's won't really notice it. That being said though, when I drop the tank (for a 3rd time!) to weld in a new right rear quarter panel, I'll be yanking that Borg-Warner pump and putting in a GM/AC pump for a v8 TPI.

i would use a vortec truck pump that is what iam puting in mine. it fits and flows enough fuel to run a big block truck. certainly it is more than enough for anything you can do to the v6 and it will still work if convert to small block injected v8 making over 400hp.

You do know that the MPFI V6's and the TPI V8's use the same pump though, right Tom? Therefore, there's NOT any extra flow.

same thing i was thinkning, and if it was from a carbed V8 the regulator would be set down like 10-15psi wouldn't it?

AFreaknGoodTme, could you give a MY for the Vette pump that will fit? I'd think a '90 or '91 would but you never can tell.

Thanks,

RBob.

"MY"?

The pump I used is out of an '89 Vette. I first used one in my '89 Chev truck, the stock one was 100psi w/plastic gears, and the Vette one for that years I was told is a 125psi with metal gears. The pressure I can not verify but can tell you that they do have metal internals. Needless to say I recently decided to use the same A/C Delco '89 Vette pump in the Camaro also- works great, and didn't have to mess with the fuel pressure reg. at all.
