open element on carbed v6

i got this 84 camaro with the 2 bbl. I was goin to put an open element air cleaner on it but it won't fit. All the open elements have a circle base. My old air cleaner had a square base that fit over the carb. Is there any type of adapter that i could get to make this fit???

YES & NO
I have that carb on my 1985 Blazer

I can say that Weiand does make a foam air filter kit that probably will fit the 2SE carb.
You'd have to go to manufacture for their answers.
Edelbrock may have an option, too.

I use the Blazer factory air cleaner & it's quite effective. I have the factory air inlet tube going to radiator support, K & N filter, lots of extra holes for the extra airflow.

I would suggest getting another air cleaner base from the junkyard an cutting the square base ouy of it. Then "modify" the bottom of the open element air cleaner to accept the square base.

The idea is to SUCK/BE FED COOL OUTSIDE AIR.
Get another longer flex hose to feed more air.
Install a K&N filter.
Enjoy the benefits.
I clean off bugs on my K & N filter, I receive such decent air flow.
I actually have another spare 2SE air cleaner, I'm gonna add a dual air inlet, let in more outside air source.
This air cleaner idea is for the Blazer
I can't wait to tighten two stupid tranny lines on side of tranny to be able to start vehicle.
Probably have to drop tranny to do this.
Love kicking myself & being so stupid!
Or call it I'm still learning.

ive been looking into this since about jun of last year. all i have come up with is a hundred or so stranges looks people gave me when i told them that i wanted a chrome air cleaner on my 2.8. As far as i know there is no simple adapter that can be put on or anything. To solve this problem i just bought another one from a junk yard and i cut the base out around the piece were it ataches to the carb. To the top of this i have welded a aluminim air cleaner spacer go with the smallest one you can find so youll still have hood clearnce.
ps. with the type of filter your looking into becarful ive herd stories of the car back firing burning the filter and the **** and ash falls into the carb and ****s it all up. so i would just recomend a edelbrock type chrome air cleaner with a K&N filter.

On a carb engine you may need to re-tune it a bit, fuel-injected car can compensate for the better colder air but on the carbed it is set at the factory for that restrictive air cleaner system. You can get spark knock / diseling cause most people think its ticking valves cause it only happens when you get on it hard wide open.

All you need is an O2 sensor and a voltmeter and you can tune that carb better than any computer.

very useful tuner guide even though it about a Holley.
