V6 Firebird ram air?

Does this setup actually work? Can it be installed in a bird? Are these dual snorkels rare?

it works cause thats what I have, but no it will not work on a bird. Its also not "ram air", its dual snorkle.

They do make a ram air kit for firebirds, cost several hundreds. find redraif's car.

the dual snorkle intake is offa camaro, and most likely it's installed into a camaro. The Ram air stickers might be referring to the mod that can be done to camaro's to utalize the camaros front bumper and create ram air from it. The hood on the firebird slopes more, and the intake won't fit under a firebird hood, i know, i tried...depending on how thick the intake is though, you may possibilibly be able to grind it down a little bit, but i'd doubt the plastic is that thick. Think the Ram air unit that's avaiilble for our cars by SLP and others normally uses the ram air hood, sounds liek a good excuse to buy the ram air hood don't it?

$60$80 from year one or other 68-69 firebird hood scoops. metal with open centers. You can get plastic cheaper and closed [you drill em open] cheaper.

item=2454300610 on ebay is the right ones but to pricey for cheap plastic.

So what part of the hood squishes the intake?

If its the bar that goes across in front above ther rad, then it might be modifyable to alow the intake to go by.

I recall reading somewhere in here, the intake itself fits, it is merely an issue of the hood not closing.

Am I missing something else here?

no, ur not missing anything. The only reason that it doesn't fit is the fact that the hood won't close as a result of the firebird's sloping hood. if memory recalls corectly, the piece has to ride above the crossbrace for the radiator support, on birds the hood closes and really doesn't allow any room between the radiator support and the actual hood assembly, and it needs to lose maybe an inch of thicknesss, it's essentially the reason GM didn't put that designed intake on a bird, as we know they would have if they could've. i'm defiantely not saying that it can't be done, just don't know if the benefit would be worth the trouble, if you can find a wrecked ws6 car, you'd be probably be better off getting the intake from it, as it'll actually be the same as the slp styled intakes sold for our cars.

the setup doesn't matter for engine size, as the v6 maros had them just as well as the v8 cars...the unit i have in my garage came from an 85-86 camaro v6....just didn't work on the bird, and i didn't really see the point in modding it to work, after all the cutting and reworking, it would no longer have much "wow, cool looking" appeal to it.
