ERROR CODE alert!!

I was driving along when my car decided to sputter and die. Luckily enough I had the code reader in my car (which i was going to return, not anymore). Checked the code and out came 42, and 54. Whats my problem?

Hello Sixbanger,

Code 42 = Electronic Spark Timing circuit
Code 54 = Fuel pump Circuit (Low Voltage)

The code 42 means you have a possible short or open ground in the EST or bypass circuits.

The code 54 means you have either a defective fuel pump relay or the fuel pump voltage is lost while the engine is running.

This means hope that the fuel pump relay is bad because anything else is going to be a nightmare to fix.

Can i get the fuel pump relay at the parts store or is it a junkyard piece? Anyone have a pic where it's located?

You can get a new one at the parts store I'm pretty sure. I'm not sure which one is the fuel pump relay, but there's a bank of 3 (or so) relays on the firewall right in front of the driver's seat. Buy a Haynes manual, it costs $20, and it should tell you which one is the fuel pump relay. You should be able to test it just by hooking up the correct terminals to the battery.
