harmonic balancer clearance?
ok, just installed a new harmonic balancer cuz the old one was pooched (rubber was sliding right out and outer ring shifting), and it seems to be super close to the oil pan. I mean REALLY close....like 2mm, 3 at the most! I never though of crawling under to check that before but I can only assume it would have to have been the same cuz the balancers look identical. The front "lip" of the oil pan literally stickes in the hollow in the back of the balancer and almost touches the hub and rubber ring. Just kinda worried about that though, is that normal? Seems aweful close.

This is an 85 if that makes a difference.

No, all balancers are that close. The closer they are to the source of the problem (the internalcrank arms) the better they do their job.
If you start the car and hear scraping worry. If not it's all good. Iknow they can be noticably close. It's OK.
