Main Bearing Torque?

I removed my main bearing cap on my 2.8 litre V6. I went to look in the Haynes manual for the torque specs and they were not there. How convenient!

Does anyone know what the torque spec is for a main bearing cap on a 2.8 litre V6.

The 3.1l v6 is 73 ft/lb. Most likely the same as the 2.8l. There is also an arrow on the cap that points to the front of the engine.

In my opinion Haynes aren't that great a manual, Chiltons is a little better and if you can get a Helms go for that but anyways according to my Chiltons the 2.8L main bearing cap torque is for an 1982-1984 = 74ft. lbs 1985-1989 = 83 ft. lbs. Never go by what some other engine is because they are not usually the same with the exception or some small block chevys

GM updated all the torque specs as the 2.8 progressed to the 3.1

You can use the 3.1 Tq specs on the 2.8, because it is the same motor. It's got a different crank, and different pistons. Nothing more than a stroker 2.8

When I rebuilt my 2.8 with the 3.1 crank/pistons, I torqued everything by the latest GM specs I could find.

I'd never use a Haynes OR a Chilton for engine work- that's ridiculous. I'd use my Helms manual (http://www.helminc.com).

I've only seen Clymers for bikes... if I recall they're a Haynes subdivision... could be wrong, don't have one on hand.
