What Gears?
What gears came stock on 91 3.1 Automatic?
What would be a good upgrade and what would the performance differences be?

I would highly recommend leaving them alone with an automatic 700r4.
I actually purposely went from 3.42's to 3.23's to get a taller 3rd gear (drive) so I didn't have to modulate between D and OD when running harder on the freeway. I would go 3.23's with an auto valve body, or 3.73's with a manual valve body (an Auto with a full manual shifing vavle body installed) 3.42's are bad in the middle.

On the other hand, I absolutely LOVE the 3.42s with a T5 5 speed.
