85berlinetta2.8, Yeah, we have a u-pullit. I went there last summer with a friend. I'm going to give then a call. I never thought of that.
V8Slayer...a few years ago i put an exhaust on from the cat back. I also changed my girlfriends cv joint. Both were easy. I know nothing about pullies...what did you have in mind?
I'm going to search for instructions on porting and polishing...a friend at work said I should get an intake and make it match.

i'd really like to see how well the stock intake can be improved upon with a bench flow. See how much extra flow you can achieve by removing as much metal as possible. Hey, removing the aluminum, which will make the aluminum thinner will that make it disapate heat better? I'd assume so, as now, the hotter part of the aluminum (the deeper stuff) is "more exposed" to ambient air (which under a hood is hot anyway) should be able to get things to cool off better.
Wonder if cooling fins on the manifolds close to the heads would keep the heads any cooler, lower combustion chamber temps, and allow higher compression or more boost. hmmmm.
i dont post here hardly at all but i noticed this thread and it kinda reminded me of when i had my 6.
your advantage is that parts are pretty cheap for the v6, i remember a 2030 cam was about $150 cams for my 95 would run from 300+
diy ported heads seems like a good idea, and 75 dollars for heads?!? thats dirt cheap.
store bought chips wont do anything, i had a jet chip stage II in my v6 and it gained nothing.
as for nitrous, what do the 3.1's take again? 55hp shots? or 75? 75 might be pushing it...
my 92 v6 would beat civics, including my sisters 95 vtech (120hp), 4cyl accords, mitubishi gallants, and equivilent or less. (3.1 m5 3.42 dynomax catback hiflo converter, cai)
LT1 v8 camaros/birds sell for 3500 now adays.... thats a 14.2ish second car stock (depending on rear)
now 3500 is dirt cheap dont get me wrong, most would be in the 8000-5000 range
but pricewise, insurance biotches will rais hell if u have the z28 or ta badges on your car
when I started to read this thread I bout laughed my *** off... But its nice to see it turned out well. Ya, you might as well aim to beat a 2002 LS1 WS6 birdy *very sexy * but Im not tryin to stir up anything, just sayin. The 2.8 isnt all that bad, depends on what ya wanna do! I love it cause it gives me a break from 8mpg AND ya cant get a 350 5 Speed I know someone that did it, but hes just askin to blow his tranny up
The guy that used to live down the street from me *i moved* had a mint condition really really badass "Gnat" and I didnt know anything about it at the time and thought it was a fugly Monte Carlo, turns out its not So I had the same opinion as you.
you will think different when you drive in anything with a LS1 or somthing quick like a bmw M5
i got a bud with a 95 lincoln towncar that puts the 2.8 to shame. gets better milage too. but were talking 10 years and 2 totally different cars.
i dont mind my 2.8, but when someone in a roller/brush painted mustang is revvin and passin me on the inside on the highway then i wish my car grew 2.9 more litres of displacment
Ya i was about to say that I loved my 2.8 when it was all that I had, but since then ive driven several LT1s and LS1s and other super fast cars, so it just doesnt do it for me anymore
hey im glad to see that more people our age (im 19) are buyin these cars. even thought they may not be the fastest or newest thing out they will get ya the girls. i have a 91 and ive actualy had people wave me over while driving to ask about my car. and yes it will get the girls to look. i do my best to keep my car clean inside and out and im always gettin complements from girls. one day i was actualy in a parking lot next to my friend and his 2002 stang and a group of girls complemented my car without saying a word about his. my advice is to drive it very responcably, dont race, and focus on keeping it looking good. this is what i do and i have gaind alot of respect from my peers.
i have a 3.1 with a 5 speed and it's one of the hardest pulling stock 6 bangers I ever drove. it's torquey as all hell (the 5 speed and rear end account for alot) and I can beat almost ANYTHING in alot of corners (seriously I beat the crap out of my buddy in his newer BMW M3 all the time... he's alot faster but he just CANNOT hang in the corners like I can, especially with the manual trans)
The whole affair was rather suprising to me because I've always known these cars are pulling a weak little 140 to 160 horses. I bought it for my wife cause she wanted a cool car that was good on gas and ended up keeping it for myself after driving it around for a day, haha.
Great car? Your right. It's just a car. It's not a hotrod. It sucks. Nothing different than a station wagon. I thought Firebirds were the **** on the streets. Y'all have just proved to me that I have a slow car. All show, no go. I dont want to waste money making her look good or look fast. Thats for prettyboys. Forget about the paint. My priorities involve speed.
And yes, I am in it to get girls also. Some guys need a pu**y magnet to get girls. Excuse the language but it's true.
Trash talking? Yep, damn right. I'm on a mission and I'm spreading the word. I'm off work for a few days and during that time I'm sure he will hear about how I'm going to take the title of "fastest car in the parking lot".
When I get my tax money I'm going to try to buy a Regal grand national. I'm going to ask my grandpa to co-sign. I've been at my job for over a year. Hopefully he'll say yes cause I hate firebirds because there slow. I cant believe I was dumb enough to think firebirds were fast.
How fast are v8 firebirds? how about firehawks? Would a Gnat V6 beat a Firebird V8?
camaro350man, your comment really made me mad..."Sell your car now or get a honda." Are you serious? A honda is faster than a bird? thats sad.
Project: 85 2.8 bird, Your wrong...if I'm understanding you correctly, your saying that a LS1 is faster than a viper from the factory?
wow...
if you need a car to get girls, thats pretty bad... not to offend... i was the same way when i bought my 86 camaro, i used to think it weaqs fast because it gave a nice push and stuff, then i sarted getting beat by civics and stuff... it hurt at first, then i stopped caring... and learned to love my car because it was me, even though it had some rust and faded paint... i also had pride knowing that my car could handle better than alot of cars, and i enjoyed that kind of racing more than the staright line drag racing...
my suggestion is... grow up a little bit... there are always gonna be cocky people who talk trash...dont pay attention, just know that your car is yours... love it treat it well and dont ruin it just to get chicks...
if you havent noticed...cars dont get chicks, personality does... you even said it yourself... hes funny and confident...
I am in the same boat. I inherited a v6 bird from my dad. Gonna drop a 3.4 in it when the 2.8 poops the bed. I have owned a GN, an 86 in fact. They are not slouches in fact i wont even try and run against one even with the modded 3.4 in because its not even a contest. My burd weighs 3900 pounds, its a sled so is the GN but what everyone here is saying is the truth. A stock GN can walk a vette no problem, a hot GN could tear a viper a new hole.
