Re: HOW TO: INSTALLING A TURBO

i have a 92 firebird 3.1 MPFI with a t5 tranny. the body and tranny have 197,000 miles and the motor has 50,000 miles, do you think my tranny would hold up at 10 psi and if so for how many miles do you think?

5 speeds are already bad but with almost 200K on it I imagine it wouldn't last very long.

Re: HOW TO: INSTALLING A TURBO

your tranny will more than likely hold up for the most part...its hard to abuse a v6 tranny with a stock motor to begin with

however the clutch will not hold up to more than a pound of boost..youll need a very heavy duty clutch, i just installed a spec clutch on mine

not really possible...buy all the parts needed and leave plenty of time for the install if you have to make the parts...this isnt a quick process

Re: HOW TO: INSTALLING A TURBO

I've been though this thread 6 times now, but I'm still confused on how the exhaust works. Does all the exhaust from the motor go though the turbo, and exits from the down pipe? Or do you keep the exhaust you have in place and weld a pipe to draw exhaust gases in from the Y-Pipe?

Re: HOW TO: INSTALLING A TURBO

so do you have the 2.8 or 3.1? I'm getting second thoughts on doing a V8 swap with the rising gas pricing unless i can afford to run tpi or tbi. I'm hoping it might be safe for the 2.8 to handle the turbo it doesn't knock or smoke (execpt occasionally when starting). Plus it still has the original water pump and radiator with no leaks. My biggest concern is the crank and pistons

the answer to your question is kinda both. you have a pipe that comes from the Y-pipe and goes up to the turbo, then out the turbo through the down pipe to the rest of the exhaust system. basically you're making the exhaust take a detour to the turbo. there's a lot of ways to do it though.

Looks nice, but I'm betting your car sits pretty high. I made some "wings" (similar to the vertical pieces on your setup, without the bottom piece) out of aluminum attached to the bodywork and air dam on my TA and mashed them within a couple of days even being very careful about it

In fact, my car is quite high and I can move my legs under my deflector, I do not know if this is the case in the United States, but in France we have speed bumps quite high and it do not touch when driving gently. I would see in the future what happens !
I have do this in 3 hours, and I have not paid the plate of fiber glass (this is my father job), if it is crushed, i do it again and will modify !

goto ur local plumbing store or hardware store, and see if u can buy a steel 1/2 inch npt pipe bung

and then weld that to ur oil pan

then u can get an 1/2inch npt to -10 an adapter to screw into there.

if u can get that i can show u were to buy the adapters and hoses and fittings cheap

i tried looking on ebay.fr but i cant really understand most of the listings

Daves12SecondV6 = Project89, they are the same person. You might be thinking of the other member Coward, <cough> I mean Doward lol...

In terms of Dave bolting with other people's money, I can't speak for anyone else, but me and him are cool with what happened in the past, and it was a complete misunderstanding on my part. Dave is a standup guy, and his work is excellent. If he freaking lived closer I'd be running his headers on my GTA, but the putz had to move all the way to Utah on me lol...

He lost the email associated with that account and didn't remember the password, and without the email you can't get a reminder password sent. The pizza box is easy to make, and Dave could make you one in his sleep. Ask him for one, and he'll ship it on over to you. And yes, he accepts paypal so your protected...
