after getting that offer on the camaro ive been thinking long and hard that maybe its time to let it go and start over with another car.
the 60* v6 seems to be a popular swap into early rx 7's which has a few advantages but would also take a decent amount of work
not to mention early rx 7's are kinda hard to find around here in good shape
my other thought was an mid 80's shortbed s10 pickup
which has many advantages over my f-body
its fairly lighter
has a full frame
can fit a big tire under the back without having to mini tub or tub it
has leaf spring suspension/ or can fit in a 4 link very easily with out cutting up the truck
originally came with the 60* v6
im leaning twards the pickup
id like to keep the rs but with my newborn daughter id wouldnt be able to have both so id have to sell the camaro to buy the pickup or rx.
i already have the motor and trans brand new waiting to go in something wether it be the rs or something else
i just cant decide if it be worth it to sell the rs and start over or just keep the camaro and slowly finish it off the way i wanted it to be
one of my friends just recomended an 80's monte carlo with an ss kit, but that would be just as heavy as my camaro
camaro, they look far better than either of them anyway. ive almost sold mine a couple times, and after i really think about it im glad i didnt. you dont want to reget getting rid of the rs later on.
I have recently wondered how cool would it be for me to install a 60* in my wife's 86 BMW 325es, but I would hate to cut up a mint car with 75k on it. Just might have to boost it, lol.
Oh wait a minute, this is Dave's thread....
The S10 is light but can be hard to get traction, I've seen lots of small block swaps that couldn't hook up. How much does the Jimmy/Blazer weigh? Seems like the weight would be distributed better for traction.
from experience...........lots of torque, little car = lots of fun. i say go with an FC, and drop your 3.3 in it. plus turbo, and you would be in a would of fun. http://grannysspeedshop.com/, has alot of info, as well as parts for the shop. if you need more info , lmk.
hey leo happen to have any engine bay shots of the one u had with the 2.8 installed, im looking to see how much room there would be, also whats the wieght on one of those things?? 2,000 pounds?
oh yeah and if at all possible have any rear suspension shots?
he only picture i still have of the engine is........
its a bad pic at a bad angle, there was probably 9-10 inches in between of the block and the radiator. there was lots of room in the engine bay ( i mean you could fit an ls1 in there ) all ot the suspension was the stock sport set-up, with 4 piston calipers in the front and 2 pistons in the rear. sorry for the lack of pics, ill try to get some off of rx7 club of houston's webpage. and yeah its weight was 2,175 lbs...... with me in it.
ok, im sorry to be a little misinforming tonight......beer does that. the car weighed 2175 with drag radials, and weld rims, minus most of the interior. and only 3 gallons of swill(91 octane) in the gas tank. im a little anebreated so i dont understand the question about the rear suspension.
you can buy the N\A versions with the sport package, cheap....as cheap as you buy all these third gen's, bought mine for less than a grand. but great aftermarket support for everything with the FC3S, DAVE...... i honestly say do it, the only odd thing to really buy is the converter for the speedometer..........................but in a drag(hint hint) that wouldnt even be a significant loss.
and i removed all 130 lbs of sound deadning material under the carpet....which i also removed.
keep the maro, it would be one thing if it wasnt already built. but it is, you know what you have in it, you know it like the back of your hand. and as stated before. looks atleast 100 times better than the other options. come on man. oh and by the way, do you have an v6 headers for sale?
the thing about the maro is it wieghs to much,i know what the cars capable of,but man if i could get the motor into something nearly 2,000 pounds lighter i could be driving a 9 sec car,and still have my 60* motor. right now im just at the pointat wich to take the car to the next level becomes very exspensive.having a new born daughter i dont have the cash to just throw at the car anymore.
yeah true, i just hate to see her go, you and your maro have become an icon/inspiration for all of us 6ers on here. id almost rather keep her the way she is than move on, then come back to her later. but thats just me, and i do get what you are saying. but all in all, you still have a 12SECOND v SIX camaro, i mean thats impressive.
every once in a while u see an RX-7 w/ an LS1 (thats insane), i saw one on ebay a few months ago, but if u can get a 60* w/ as much power as u did w/ ur maro, holy **** its would be fast, good luck

SOON LSx/T-56 swap If I get the money !
and yes they weight 2700 lbs stock but after removing enough metal, and glass, sound deadning material, ford probe gt wheels, a seat, and dash. it took the weight down significantly. ill just say when the car was sold, it was so loud to drive the car, that i didnt even want to start it up, to show people the car.
but dave....................do it. i mean, do it.

Well if that's the case, I'll look at something else, I want full interior, and some sound deadening.
me personaly i would say keep it a chevy and go with the s10, thats what i'm planning on doing actualy just without turboing it. plust it would be so much quicker and easier since a 2.8 belongs in an s10.
my V6 car weights 2930..... So I don't understand where the wieght problem is coming from. And I still have full interior(minus rear seats), rear hatch, doors, and the like.
But if all you want to do is go fast in a straight line, pick the smaller chassis. I personally like my 6 foot wide car.
What about a Triumph TR7? Just as much room as a RX7....if not more, cheap to aquire, four link suspension and aerodyanamic. Electricals are a mess but nothing a Painless wiring kit can't fix. An early Fox body 8.8 rear is a good fit with minimal welding for the suspension links and shocks. A real trunk to mount your battery to easily make it NHRA legal.
