Car stalling, need help asap

My car has been stalling lately and I need help fixing this asap, as this is my daily driver. I thought that is might have been my alternator, but when is stalls my car still has power(lights, radio, etc). It will stall and as its struggling the SES blinks in sequence with the stalling. But when I check the codes all I get is code 14, which is for the coolant temp.
Im thinking that part of it might be the fuel filter, but I cant seem to find the fuel pump fuse. It says in my Haynes that it is labled FP, but i dont have a fuse labled that.

I'm assuming it stalls at idle? Could it be a fouled plug? Distributor Module?

just throwing things out there.

Sorry... It stall at random times. The other day it stalled cruising at 60mph, than was fine. Than I couldnt get it to idle after work one day, once I got it going it was fine. And today it would stall while I was driving at 40mph. Sometimes its fine, sometimes its not and sometimes its fine at first than dies at random times.

I would change the fuel filter. Also change that temp sensor.

In the process of changing the fuel filter. Is the ECM temp sensor the one under the throttle body? Also does anyone know which fuse on the 3.1 disables the fuel pump? No fuse says FP, and I dont want to just start pulling fuses to figure out which one it is.

I believe the temp sensor is where you stated. What I do with my car to get rid of the fuel pressure is just unhook the fuel line at the filter. I don't know why but when I pull my FP fuse is never dies...anyways you will have gas run down your arms and such but it won't drain the tank or anything like that.

I know that some cars have an automatic shutdown if they overheat. Did 3rd Gens have that? If the sensor is bad would it tell the ECM to shut down?

Simple... Distributor Module... or should I say, this is the first item to be replaced... cheap, quick, & ez... Just use a lot of grease on the bottom (I will come with it)...

That's so nice of you to package yourself up with the module...lol

Yeah, I think it's the module too. They overheat in the distrubot and just go out at random times, then once they cool down...life is good again. replacing it with a new one will probably fix it.

The car would evenutally stall anyway due to the pistons eventually seizing up. But to answer your question though, no. As already mentioned, change your ignition module....

I just changed my module a couple months ago. I just got done changing the fuel filter and took it for a spin. It seems to be fixed. Keyword seems. Im going to be driving it again today. If its not fixed Ill get another ignition module.

Bad gas over the years can cause the injectors to get very dirty. If the new ignition module doesn't solve the problem, take the time to clean your injectors very thoroughly, while checking actual fuel pressure, if you can....

Re: Car stalling, need help asap

Ok so the problem is not fixed. On the way home it was doing something I forgot to mention before. It will just periodicaly go from 1000 rpms to 2000 rpms. This actualy pushes my car and I have to brake to maintain speed. My SES light tonite looked like a stobe light at times. Getting an ignition module tomorrow. Also, could it be the TPS? Could this be the reason for the jumping rpms? Could my ECM be crapping out?

Re: Car stalling, need help asap

CHanged the ignition module today, and it didnt fix it. I was told by a mechanic that is probubly the TPS, and that I should change it. Ive looked around in Summit and found THESE. They dont say its for a Camaro, but its for a 91 3.1L. Will one of these work?

I ordered anew TPS and a CTS. I just got the TPS and installed it, and still no change. The CTS got backordered. I still get code 14. Mabye someone could explain to me how a coolent temp sensor would cause the car to stall/die. I just dont see how it could do that. Thanks

How did you set your throttle speed. Assuming that the O2 sensors are working okay, it sounds as if you have a vacuum leak somewhere. When more air is detected at a given RPM, the ECM compensates by adding more fuel. Did you check your intake manifold/plenum/throttle body for any vacuum leakage? Also, how is she during start up, does she idle at @ around 900-RPM, or much higher.....?

I put it in like it said in my Chiltons/Haynes. Just unbolt the old one and put in the new one. It said you only need to adjust on 1989 and older.
I know I have a little vac leak in one of the vac tubes behind my intake, but thats been there and its never acted like this. 8 times out of 10 my car will act perfectly, turns on great, idles smoothly, and drives smooth. Its just at certain times it will act up, and those certain times seem very random.

Changed the coolent temp sensor. Problem is still there. Still throwing code 14. Next stop, check fuel pressure and injectors.
Is there anything else I should check? Im not a mechanic so without a useable code I dont know where to start. Thanks
