Displacement up

In a 1986 Camaro with a 2.8...if I was to change the block and put in a 3.8L v6 block would that work? Would the compression be too high? I am thinking about changing nothing but the block and porting the heads, getting short headers and a performance chip? Would I bed able to use all my original sensors and ecu and stuff?

Re: Displacement up

The 3.8 is a completely different motor. The largest motor that you can put in without having to change anything is the 3.4.

Re: Displacement up

Thanks for the info... any idea how much power that will make? I want to get a good solid 210-230 hp... Port the heads, polish intake ports, hedman hedders, edelbrock camshaft(idle-5500), and get the bigger displacement, a a jet stage 2 perormance chip... Think its possible?

Re: Displacement up

1 person tryed putting a 3.8 in there car. Easier n faster to install a v8.

Considering a 3.8 comes factory with 200hp. 210-235 would not be hard.

We get questions like this regularly. Someone should make a stickey so newbies don't get confused.

Attention: 90 degree v6's (3.8, 4.3 ect) aren't compatible with 60 degrees (2.8, 3.1, 3.4, ect).

By the way Dale, you wouldn't happen to have a copy of the $3A def. with the maf scalars would you?

Re: Displacement up

Tried it. His doesn't have the scalars. All I need are the stock values, then the '870/'302 to '165 is possible for everyone. I've tried to find the right values via datalogging, but with a nbO2 it's like throwing darts at a pea. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get a copy from tunercat.

P.S. Sorry for hijacking the thread.
