car won't start I need help!!!

I have an 89 2.8 I bought the whole car for 125$$ the guy said it ran when he parked about 2-3 years ago so I brought it home and put a battery on it and it would turn over but won't start so I looked for spark and there was none so I went and bought a new coil and rotor and now I got spark but it still would not start so then I replaced the fuel pump and now I am getting fuel but it still wont start so I took the starter of to see if it needed to be replaced so I refurbished it so now it turns over faster but still does not start if I spray some ether in it wile I am turning it over it will like fire on one or two cylnders but will not start. And that is where I am stuck at if u have any info that I might be missing please help..

hmm check the distributor and make sure the timing is set right. almost sounds like a bad ignition module. if ur spraying in the intake and its not starting . not enough spark.

In my experience you can only get refurbished modules in the parts store -such an important part I wouldn't want to get a re-built one. I would go straight to GM. But first, have you thought of putting on a new idle air control sensor? My car sat for 10 years in this old guys garage (that's why it's so perdy ) without being started and that's all it needed post tune-up. The only other thing you should worry about is rust in the coolant system. I've done 5 flushes and I can't have new glycol in for more than a day b4 it turns brown! lol

you might need to tear off the timing cover and see if the timing chain has skipped. I bought mine for $200 and I had a similar story as yours. my timing chain had skipped. its a common problem on these engines.

sounds like freeze plugs are rusted and need replaced. antifreeze should not turn brown in 1 day. changed the freeze plugs in mine a while back. after 6 months it looked green as the day i filled it up.

Re: car won't start I need help!!!

I have a 1989 with the 2.8 L engine and I am selling it. it runs excellent. New brakes, shocks, Struts, plugs, wires, distributor, EGR, O2 Sensor, exhaust from the cat back, interior was changed 90% to black instead of red. Car also has Sun roof that doesn't leak, Power windows, Power hatch back, Power steering, cruise control, A/C and probably more that i haven't remembered. Needs paint job. I am willing tlet it go for $500. I recently bought a 1989 5.0l and am investing into that one to restore. I also have a 5.7L LT1 engine out of a 1994 SS Impala Cop Car that I will also negotiate a price on if needed as well as a radiator. I am going to list the car in the near future but was compelled to offer it to you first.
