Only way to know for sure is to verify what options it had, and also verify the VIN number of the car. Very few 1LE cars were made, so most likely it is not one.
Just like right now there are more 1969 Z28 clones running around than the amount of z28s actually produced in 1969. There are a lot of people that try to pass off their cars as some sort of rare or ultra-desirable model. That's why you gotta verify it.

1992 Firebird 3.1 V6 (Used to have 75 HP nitrous shot)
1984 15th anniversary Trans Am (2 cars, future project to take both cars and make one good one)
1969 Firebird 400 4 speed. Actually has a 455 in it. Almost done with the complete restoration.
Sorta.....But I know a guy with a 350/T5 1LE.....(originally a 305 car) so a 350 isn't impossible.
It wasn't factory either.
The only REAL 1LE cars, the ones that will be more valuable to collectors, are the ones that came from the factory. All others will just be modified cars. That's the way a collector would look at it. Same thing with a T5, 350 car. The factory never issued that car, so it wouldn't be of any significance to a collector. Although very cool, as far as value it's just another modified 3rd gen.

It is still a 1LE car...That was, unfortunately, modified. An engine swap doesn't remove its 1LE "status".

Agreed!
I was talking about general stuff in my earlier post. I wasn't trying to insinuate that your buddy's car wasn't a 1LE. Just that it didn't have a factory 5 speed and 350 engine.
I was just talking about people's tendency to take a car and try to then pass it off as an up-level or special optioned car by adding stuff to it.
