Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
If it quits raining I'm going to get a clip of mine.
I'm looking into what might be quieter though. I liked the way it sounded back when it was a Catco high-flow cat, 2.5 I-pipe, and a dynomax 2.5in 2.5dual out muffler, but then I added the pacesetter headers.
Now I think it's too loud. Sounds great at idle and while cruising, but under acceleration it's annoying.
I found the dynomax single in/dual out super turbo muffler for $60, and I've heard the turbo mufflers are a little quieter, so I'm thinking about it.

Ok. I had the camera too close on that bumper shot and overloaded the sound, but it was taking 3 tries to get a clip that the computer would download and it seemed like it was about to rain so I lived with it. Anyway, to me it's just a little on the loud side. I think there's some muffler or heat shield rattle in there too.
Was kinda hoping to get what it sounds like just cruising after accelerating, but it doesn't really show up. (and yes, I need new shocks.)
If I find something better for recording audio I might try it again. A mic hooked into the laptop might work better than my camera.
I don't know how to embed the video into a post either.

Hey 89, that's the same thing I wanted to do with my exhaust, I really like how it sounds on the video.
But how did you get the cherrybomb in where the cat is? The exhaust pipe hooks up with one of those 3 bolt things so I cant see using a u clamp.. Got a pic of the pack hooked up you could post?

Entrig00 that almost sounds exactly like mine .
91Camaro_RS the internalsnever come out of the GP they just loosen up to fill in the internal holes inthe GP to make it more like a piece of pipe.
big313rsboi you could mount your GP with the raised holes inside pointing away from the engine and it will be as loud as it will get out of the box because if you mount it with the raised holes faceing the engine you have to either bust the packing or let it wearin over time .

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
Many years ago I had a '79 Chevette and replaced the cat with a piece of pipe by takeing the cat off and useing another cat I had as a guide for how long to make it and cut the ends off one cat and welded them to the pipe and bolted the pipe with the cat ends back inplace and it sounded good with a stock replacement muffler with about 4in tailpipe . So you can run a gutted cat , length of pipe , or a GP to get the job done .

I had mine that way for awhile when my muffler came off but I have a GP inplace of my cat . If I could have run my tips and duels without my muffler I would have . The stock pipe is 2 1/4 all the way to the muffler .

Go with the 80 if you want a cheaper muffler , but if you don't care about price then go with the Magnaflow . IMO they both sound great .

Stock is 2 1/4 and is fine but if you want to go larger I would go 2 1/2 .

I'll make sure to put before and after pic and sound clips for all.
for the mean time it came down to flowmaster 80 series and Magnaflow...
is it cheaper if I order the muffler from the companys that make them or throu like summit, jeggs...ect?
Thanks...
P.S. Bird thanks for hanging in there with me.

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
You do need backpressure, i just replace dthe old cat with a cherrybomb glasspack and it came loose the other day, so exhaust was getting out before the cherrybomb. it had NO low end and i didnt want to push it because i didn't want it to fall off more.
I think the cherrybomb made my car quieter overall, but the sound it makes is lower now. Just got some cheap muffler and thats the way it's gona stay untill that one rots and falls off.

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
ok I know this is a no no...or I think but when I was driving my car with no muffler what give me a different feel from when there was a muffler? What I mean is when I was driving the car to muffler places to get qoutes I notice that I couldnt flore it because it didnt want to pick up. I mean Id step on the gas and it didnt want to go...was that due to not having a muffler or would it be something else ?
Thanks bird....and bro you need to be over here in AZ lol

Re: The best mufflers for V6 !!!!!
Yep, bird pretty much explained it for me. I'd hit the gas, the car would be loud as sh*t, but it took forever to get any speed.
I gotta say though, I'm very happy with the cat replaced with the cherrybomb. I dont feel any effect in the low end torque I always had and have gained a little in the 3Ks. It made my car quieter in general, but the sounds also lower, more of a rumble.
I had been planning this for a long time and when I saw Bird had done the same thing and heard his sound clip I went to it. So thank you.

so entrig00 did you get your exhaust done yet?
and does anyone know what a 3.4 with a 3500 top end swap would sound like with a punched out cat and flowmaster?

Your best bet is to find a Pull -a - part and get one from a fourth gen with a 3.4 in it .

The only parts on the front that come off are the hood , fenders , bumper , and k member . And yes they are unibody cars .

I used my v6 tranny mount (v6-> v8 700R4)
There's a nice guide in the motor swap section.
