please help, swap problem 2.8 to 3.4

Hi!
I came from Autria in Europe and we did an engine swap.
The base was a 2.8lt V6 Firebird Bj. 1987 MPFI Engine.
Now we did the engine swap to a Firebird 94er 3.4lt.

We did the swap like a thread in here.
Now here is the problem.
The 3.4lt engine runs great, but the hole car is vibrating.
We donīt know where it come from.
I have a automatic transmission.
We take the balancer from the 3.4lt???
We take the flywheel from the 2.8lt???
Also is there a big different in the oil filter housing.
the 2.8housings have 2 sensors in it, the 3.4only one.
We decide to take the 3.4lt housing.
Was this correct???

These are the three things we donīt know if it was correct.
Maby the vibration came from this???
Blanacer, flywheel?
We took a look at it , but they are in an good condition.

So i hope anyone can help me in this, and sorry for my bad english....

thanks alot
Martin

Re: please help, swap problem 2.8 to 3.4

You should always keep rotating components (crank, balancer, flywheel, ect.) together, don't mix them up. You need the 3.4 flywheel. The oil filter boss shouldn't matter as much because it only needs the dummy pressure sensor (small one) wired in the fuel circuit so it'll kill the fuel pump if there's no oil pressure. The other sensor (large bell shaped one) is for the pressure guage on the dash if you have one.

Re: please help, swap problem 2.8 to 3.4

All externals should be swapped from the 2.8. Flywheel/flexplate and balancer (internally and externally balanced is the difference), injectors, and thats about it, should be kept from the 3.4. everything else, use from the 2.8. I used the oil filter housing from my 2.8, no issues.

Re: please help, swap problem 2.8 to 3.4

Hi!
Thanks a lot.
But the 2.8 Oil filter housing is different on the inside. The 2.8 has three pieces inside, The 3.4 has one.
I hope you understand me.
Is this correct to mount the 2.8lt Oil housing?
I donīt want no oil pressure in the engine...

thanks alot
Martin

My vote is flexplate for the vibration.

Also recheck and make sure all your mounts are tight.

Re: please help, swap problem 2.8 to 3.4

I had the same exact issue except I swapped out the flywheel and all is well. I kept the balancer and flywheel that came with the 3.4 and it was a good thing I did.

The mistake I made was using the flywheel from the 2.8 and the balancer was from the 3.4. I pu tthe flywheel from the 3.4 on there and all is well.

(Didn't pay attention when I put the car back together so that was my mistake).

I suggest putting the 3.4l balancer on it along with the 3.4l flywheel and see what happens

!!!

Use the 3.4 water pump with the 3.4 timing cover.

Re: please help, swap problem 2.8 to 3.4

You need a 3.4 balancer, and a 3.4 flywheel/flex plate. Thats the only way your going to get rid of the vibration! Even if it cost alot.

Depending on which accessorys you used. I am assuming your 2.8 ones. You need the 2.8 timing cover, 2.8 water pump, 2.8 alt, 2.8 p/s, 2.8 a/c.
