I know for A FACT the 87' v6 was a 2.8. That's whats in mine.

If u can't get it no big deal you can get a pipe cutter and new line with "compression fittings" to replace that section if you twist/**** it up...... Don't over think things! It's just a straw with a bad filter in the middle!

your doing it before u put on the new filter to test the pump right.... Cranking and seeing gas is good >>> means pump is OK

Do you hear the pump kick on at all? Lay buy the tank and have someone else crank her over to see if you hear the pump trying to kick on.... Do you have PLENTY of gas in her to help her prime since she sat so long? Once you get her going it will be worth all this hassle!

But in worst case scenario(fuel pump), I know that some of our cars had a tank access under the carpet in the trunk.
Just makes it easier.

Put a can of gas straight to the fuel rail.

It starts till my can runs empty.

Thats good to hear. Mine started out in pretty rough shape. But for a $450 car, and $1000-$1500 in parts, it was WELL worth the investment imo. Of course i did all the labor so its got sentimental value to me.

Also, do you have the intake tubes and sensors? They will be needed to run just right. lol

Just make one of your buddy's ride under the hood and have him pour gas in as you go! > Hook the throttle up to his nuts!< Glad to hear you got her to fire! Ask at autozone > Alot of times they know where stuff is located > Ask a manager or someone who has worked there for a while... You find the right guy > they can help you out alot. I would still try to replace the RELAY first.... Keep us posted!

As far as an "access panel" for the fuel pump, none of our cars came with that. the only cars that have it are the ones that people cut in there. Fuel pumps arent a quick easy job, you have to drop the exhaust, lower the rear axle to get the tank out.

Your relay is also behind the brake booster a good way to test the pump is at the diagnostic port you plug a wire into the lower left port with 12v+ on it if all your fuses are good the pump should run if it doesn't you may have a bad fuse in the fuse panel or the fuse on the passenger side next to your evap canister and if all the fuses are good the relay or pump is bad and you can replace the relay easy and cheaper than a fuel pump and is good insurance if you do need a pump .

You can find pics all overthe site where folks cut their own access hole to change it. I sure as heck did. Im wayto lazy to start unbolting the rear end crap when an air chisel works quicker.

ALso can't tell ya how nice it been able to access the FP stuff any time I want now. Have had it back open a dozen times plus.

Who wants to drop the rear every time ya need to mess with it????

Now they did finally add an access door factory in 2000 then shut down the line in 2002.

if you are standing in front of the car with the hood up..look to your right to where the big clump of wires come out of your car by that big black round thing..thats your brake booster ..you see the oval thing to the right of it..thats your relay..now the fuse is on the left side in the fender wall..there should be two of them..you won't know they are fuses until you unplug it....



by the way thats an late 86 sold in 87..reason i know is the wiper motor..87 to i think 90 had the plug on top left of the motor

Thanks snowman383 I only get on here in the mornings and the fuse panel is on the driverside under the dash and the diagnostic port is on the driver side next to the radio and heat and air controls and bothe have covers over them .

What month does it say? if its a late month, it is an early 87 production vehicle. Ever notice that the new model year cars always come out in like august or september of the year before. its only june 09 and 2010 camaros are already at dealers.
