I got a 89 Firebird with a 2.8L engine...the problem I have is that it takes a while of cranking and rotating before it turns over (usually about 3 seconds)...I am wondering...what could be causing this...
I have recently replaced the starter and the fuel pump&relay
It only has 80K miles and it runs great...just that starting problem
recently did a tune up on it too
Battery is only about 6 months old
Could it be because of a bad alternator? mine is pretty old
I also had problems with my car starting and I adjusted the IAC and TPS and it got much better still lags alittle but not much .
How do I do that? is it hard?
I work on my car but I have never heard of that...
I doubt its the cold start injector because it does it in hot weather too
IIRC the coldstartinjector is supposed to work when ever the coolant is under 90 degrees . I would check my timing and make sure it is 10 btdc then check the TPS voltage at idle it should be .54v and the IAC resets when you turn the key to on and jump the diagnostic port . If you do a search for how to do all this or get a Haynes repair manual it will tell you alot .

How do you know if the Cold Start Injector is bad if you can't find it to test it???
You could just have a faulty Cold Start Switch.
I agree there is a test that I can't remember off the top of my head but you have a coolant temp sensor that controls the cold start if it is bad the injector will not work or the plug on the injector is unhooked . The coolant sensor has a purple and a tan wire going to it and the purple wire gets power from the crank fuseand when the cold start switch/sensor is below 90 IIRC it closes and the cold start injector puts fuel in the intake for starting . The cold start sensor is located on the front of the intake by the throttle body and the cold start injector is located at the back of the intake and both can be gotten to from the driverside .
