2.8 EFI Ignition upgrade.

Hello Everyone. I've new here and have recently purchased an 2.8 EFI model. I know that they are the smallest Engine, but I also have an 1980 Camaro with a 350, so I want to keep this one original. I would like to know since it isn't a S.B., does anyone make a good aftermarket Ignition system or know of a good swap to possibly go from the EST distributor to a Trigger type system? Any help or pointers is truely appreciated.

Re: 2.8 EFI Ignition upgrade.

MSD does make the 6al for us...i mean honestly, yes it is an upgrade but, in less your running a boosted or sprayed set up its really not worth it. Im sure it would help the upper rpm band but really its alot of money for it. As for the trigger system FirstFirebird is working on a conversion piece for us all as he has built a few and is building a hybrid set up motor with twin turbos...the setup not having a distributer obvioulsy is kind of a problem so he is developing a kit to convert it...im waiting on him to finish it so i can buy one and do my conversion lol

Thanks for the information. I'll leave it stock for now until these kits are avaiable.

Re: 2.8 EFI Ignition upgrade.

You can get a very nice cap and rotor from MSD, and I know Jeg's is selling a module that is HP and can go to high RPMs without losing too much dwell. It is also very heat resistant.

The module is the number one problem here. I'd say if you re-bush the housing (or trade it in at the parts store for a rebuilt) and replace the pick up coil, add the MSD and Jeg's parts then you should be set.

You can also buy the MSD coil for the GM applications and cut your old one off the mount bracket and use this one in its place. The coil is notorious for fouling up after it has been so overheated by the engine for so long.
