dumb question about intake bolts and throttle body

So i'm about ready to put my 3.1 into my 85 bird and low and behold the damn bolts to mount the upper and lower intake together and to the block have vanished. (I tore my dads garage apart looking for them yesterday..) I cant for the life of me rember/find what sizes are needed. HELP PLEASE! thank you.

second question, i'm just wanting this to run so I was going to use the throtle body off a 2.8 (which amazingly got scrapped with the 2.8 but I remeber reading once that I could change a couple pin or wires and use the 3.1 with the 85 computer, if not I'll just goto the scrap yard and get a 2.8 TB but I would rather buy new bolts for the intake. should there be a gasket for the intake?

Thanks in advance. I'm wanting to get this running by this weekend cause me and the wife need 2 cars now that the boy is walking ^_^ she wants to take him to the park and what not while i'm at work.

Congrats to your boy!

Yes, there should be a gasket.
I'm not sure about the 3.1 TB or the size for the intake bolts(though I would see if an auto parts store has the info).
For the bolts..would you just need the length and socket-size for the bolt?
Are we talking the lower intake manifold?

Re: dumb question about intake bolts and throttle body

Yea the size, length, ect. the bolts to conect the upper intake to the middle intake, then to the lower intake. basicly the lower manifold is on the engine its the top and middle I need the bolts for. I'm probably gonna just goto a salvage yard and see if they have one in a car that I can swipe a couple from then go buy new ones from fastenall.

I found some old posts of mine that I think have the TB coverd so I just need those bolt sizes now (and a battery, completely forgot I need one of those too :lol )

Re: dumb question about intake bolts and throttle body

They are metric thread, I remember that. 6mx1.00 I THINK. Possibly 6x1.50. But way cheaper to get used as they are not stretch bolts. To bad cause I tossed a set last week.

The TB mount I have read is different 2.8 to 3.1. So you need to match to whatever upper intake you use. Then possibly redo the pigtail on your wireharness. The 3.1 upper intake also has an extra vac port on it

Re: dumb question about intake bolts and throttle body

okay I now know they are 8mm but do they have to have the lip built around the head or will standard m8 bolts work with a washer? I'd like to get this bird flyin soon I need every bolt for the intake. All the ones I'm finding at the HW stores are a hair bit longer and have larger heads.. I didnt want to go junkyarding but I think I might have too. you think 5-10 bucks would be decent for used? any one got a complete set they want to sell? (every bolt from the block up would be nice that way I know i've got them all.)

Re: dumb question about intake bolts and throttle body

I just swapped mine out for socket cap bolts from Fastenal. HD has them too, I noticed today. Could go that route. I think the middle are the same as the upper.
If you want my stock upper bolts, I'll send them to ya free (+ shipping). Send a pm if interested.
