Swapping MPFI to carb?

I hate FI. Is all too much work and too much electrical crap to go wrong. So I'm thinking about swapping in a carb. I know this will make the MPG a little worse on a bad tune, but a proper tuned carb gets better performance.

Is this all I need to do the swap?

Upper and lower carb intake manifold
carb (Whats a good one?)
Install fuel regulator

Do I need to remove the intank pump and replace it with an inline one? Or could I get away with a 3-port fuel regulator? Do i need to replace the dizzy with a vacuum advance one? Or can i stick with the stock one? Any other tips/advice would be bitchin

Re: Swapping MPFI to carb?

There's a tech article on the main page detailing the swap, its essentially the same on a 6 cylinder. You can use a 3-port regulator, and you WILL need a vacuum advance distributor. You may need to install a switch for the fuel pump, since the ECU will no longer be receiving a signal from the distributor. (Although the oil pressure switch should be enough to operate the pump relay) You'll need to do something with the fuel lines too.

Thanks for the tip! read the tech article, it explained alot. I was already planning on doing a switch for the fuel pump and ignition anyway, So i don't mind having to add it in. I gotta replace fuel lines anyway, Looks like this swap is gunna come together. Now to pick a carb and new ignition setup

Carb = less mpg & hp.
Carbs are simple mechanical parts that can't adapt or learn on the go like efi can. Properly tuned efi out powers a properly tuned carb every time.

Re: Swapping MPFI to carb?

That's true. Carbs are good for their simplicity, FI is good for power and tuning. Plus these old MPFI systems are pretty simple as far as fuel injection systems go.

even if it does take away hp, I'd much rather run a carb. Much easier to work on and less to go wrong electrically. I don't know much about fi and all that stuff, But I can tear down and rebuild a carb no sweat. Too me this is a logical swap.

Re: Swapping MPFI to carb?

In the same boat here, tired of dumping cash into pricy computer stuff.
I can tune and solve carb problesm 10x easier n cheaper.
F a few ponnies n MPG.
Done spent to much and have gotten no where fast.

One tip I got was to get a dizzy for a canada V6 s10 or other from like autozone, cheap and will be vac advance.

Just got done emailing a guy tonight about a 85 carbed s15 with a spun rod bearing. only 77,000, working ac OD auto trans and looks mint inside and out. $250

Should be able ot get all the parts I need then get some money back.
Or maybe drop a cheap 305 n trans in it and haul junk.

You may want to go that route too.
Have priced parts over and over, even used it gonna cost less to buy a whole car.

search s10,s15,jimmy, blazer in your area.
