V6 3.1 with possible timing problem.. Please Help!!!!!!!!

I just got a 1990 Pontiac Firebird. Its a V6 that Im going to be swapping to a V8. In the mean time I would like to get the current V6 running for now... when I got it it would just pop alittle when turned over but would not start... My first thoughts were that the timing or fireing order was out...after a light inspection I saw marks on the plug wires and a brand new distributer so I assumed it may have been installed wrong... I have gone through many threads to get the proper firing and distributer order as well as which piston is the #1 piston...Also why is there 3 marks on the balancer and which one is used for timing... Can anyone help with this as well any suggestions to what the problem may be.. Thanks in advance.

Re: V6 3.1 with possible timing problem.. Please Help!!!!!!!!

Firing order is 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6

#1 is passenger side front (right hand side)

The widest of the marks is the proper timing mark. The other way to look at it is it will be the one that lines up at 10* BTDC and the engine still runs.
