Hello all have a few questions.

Hey all, Im new here and I had a few questions. Im close to purchasing a '91 Camaro RS with a 3.1 V6. The body and interior is in good shape but the car doesnt run. The guy im gonna buy it from wants $630 for the car. Im wondering if this is price is to high? The car has been sitting for a year and he has not touched it for some time because he cant figure out the problem with the motor. It seems like the car is having the same problems that joecool108's car is having 91 V6 rough idle when hot. (91 V6 rough idle when hot) He has replaced a lot of stuff to try to get the car running but no luck. I couldn't tell you right now what he has replaced but I could find out. He thinks it might be the injectors or the fuel pump. Also im not sure if i want to buy the car and dump a load of money into it and have no luck of getting it running but on the other hand it might be some $4 part. So the question is. What would you guys do?
Here is a picture of the car:

Re: Hello all have a few questions.

Umm.... BUY IT!!! In all honesty when your buying an old car to fix up the body should be 95% of the decision, unless where talking ultra rare factory engine or something. You could put a l98, lt1, or ls1 in that thing and still be way better off than if you bought a good running v6 with t-tops and an almost perfect body.

If I where you I'd buy and do an engine swap. If you want to keep the v6 then get it and see if you can fix it if not rebuild it and you'll still be better off. That's an amazing low price unless he's hiding something.
Good luck
Alex

Re: Hello all have a few questions.

Have him take $50 off for the cheesy fender thing.

T-tops, looks good, good interior.... yeah, buy it. Easy swap for a 3.4, or spend the money on a v8 swap and you are still way ahead.
See if you can talk him down more, of course.

Re: Hello all have a few questions.

BUT IT!!!!!!!!....the body looks solid and if the interior is good then your far ahead. All you have to do is figure out the motor and your good to go. Any numbers on mileage on the motor/body? It looks like a very solid car. I would buy it if you dont....it would give me something to drop the 350 crate into(i want to go turbo v6 or ls1 with this one).

Re: Hello all have a few questions.

I'd say go for it. If worst comes to worst you can always get the same V6 from hawks for $350.00 or swap in a V8.

Re: Hello all have a few questions.

Great grab man!...should be a great car once you get it running. Do alot of searches in the v6 section(here lol) about the problems you are having before you just throw parts at it. There is ALOT of GREAT information on this site. Ive learned almost too much about my car from this site lol. Either way enjoy the car and take car of it. The value on these things has been slowly going back up again.

Re: Hello all have a few questions.

Yeah Im happy and excited about it. Ive been reading A lot of stuff on these forums and have been learning A lot of stuff. Someone ask earlier how many miles the car had. Its has 143,XXX cant remember exact. A little more then I would want but for $630 I guess I cant really complain to much. Ill be happy when I get it running. Thats if I can get it running.

Re: Hello all have a few questions.

haha ya i asked about mileage. And ya that is a lil high but for that price its relative. Once you get it running if you dont in the process make sure you do a full car tune up. Like do all the basics and all that on the motor, do a tranny filter, drain rear end and so on. Make sure you have a good baseline. These V6 motors can be very strong diehard reilable motors. YOu just have to take car of them and keep up on regular maintence and so on. It should treat you well. The ladies will love the car and the t-tops. Thats one thing ive learned. At least with my car...nice red car with black/chrome wheels, loud *** system, t-tops off, hair flowing in the wind....the ladies just can not get enough. So what if they use you for your car. You reap the benifits anyway lol.

Re: Hello all have a few questions.

Oh yeah I planned on it doing all that stuff. It just bothers me about this problem with the motor. I remember before when he drove it it would start back firing and shuddering and stall. But other times it was fine and ran good. Its just seems like a annoying problem. I didnt wanna see the car go to a junk yard or something like that. I rather try to save it.
