Leaking ALOT of fuel...Help Please

So there have been many problems with this recently purchased 86 Firebird with a 2.8l, I noticed that air pressure was building in it from the valve stem looking thing on top of the manifold nearest the firewall. When i would wiggle the fuel line next to it, going into the intake it would then release and close the air noise from coming out. Now it appears to have gas coming directly underneath the intake, where all the fuel lines connect to. I was thinking possible the fuel injectors but honestly have no idea, I am capable of fixing it if I know exactly where and what it is but do not have diagnosing skills, any hints or tips would be appreciated. Thank you...Ben

How many miles? It really might need to have the intake and all that jazz "rebuilt." How does it run, any hesitating, missing, etc?

Re: Leaking ALOT of fuel...Help Please

It has 180,000 miles on it, and thats when it stopped working, unsure exactly now that it has been registered 2 years ago at 180,000 miles as well. Never had it miss or backfire on me and it does have a really bad problem with dying on me when I stop quickly, it bogs down to like 300 rpms and kills out and is then impossible to get it restarted for a good 30 minutes, not sure if that a vacuum problem but there are so many issues I wouldnt know where to begin.

Re: Leaking ALOT of fuel...Help Please

^^the stalling is because of the vacuum and fuel leak you are having. The fuel that is pouring all over the place is probably the line going into the fuel rail which is on the back of the intake manifold. As for noise of air escaping you will need to find ALL of those spots and replace the hoses. Without vacuum pressure(or not enough) the motor will not run well and will stall at stops, also your brakes may not work well at all as they are controlled by vacuum(usually have a one way valve tho so in case of a leak you wont loose brakes, ive seen some morons replace hoses and not put the vavle in tho)

My advice is to get all the vacuum leaks fixed and figure out what hose is leaking all the fuel. Its not safe to drive around with fuel shooting all over the place. If it hits the manifolds or y pipe your car might go up in flames. I would get this fixed asap!

With 180k miles you should probably replace everything made of rubber, especially if it's been sitting for 2 years.
Good luck

check the test port on the fuel rail and see if its leaking. have to pull off the upper intake to see. its a schrader valve and the little stem can go bad. id either replace the stem or cap it.

Re: Leaking ALOT of fuel...Help Please

Okay, my progress... is little to none I took off the entire intake on the top and got a direct view of the fuel rail. I found a fuel line coming from the back of the engine to the top of the rail...not the two thick lines of the passenger side of the rail but an individual one on the driver side that screws directly into the rail...this is called a cold start injector (sti) fuel line..? I think, but I can move that fuel line up and down while its screwed all the way in. I bought a whole new o-ring set for it as well and it doesnt help the line will slide back and forth anyways and of course it still leaks. Im planning on pulling one at a junk yard but have the problem of not knowing how to disconnect the fuel line from the bottom of it (the part on the back, nearest the firewall). If you have any ideas of suggestions please fill me in. Thank you

Re: Leaking ALOT of fuel...Help Please

Okay so I got it fixed.....I went to the local bone yard and found a new valve that connects the cold start injector fuel line to the fuel rail when I took apart the one I found it had a o ring inside the valve that mine did not have even when I first took it off. Now it has no leaks or sprays what so ever....Thanks everybody for your input.
