My mods

since ive gotten my camaro last week ive gotten camaro parts books and ive done some research on the computer. ive obviously come to realize its very hard to find anything to do with a 2.8 V6. i do not want to swap i just wunna free it up a little and gain horse where i can and have a decent running V6 compared to others. and plus i hate those litte jap cars most my friends are into >_<

heres a list of things i would like to buy in the near future. now i havent done exstent research on all the parts so this is where i need your knowledge and opinion and maybe even past exspiriences. let me know if somethings a bad idea. if i might need something else to make a certain part i listed work or if its a complete waste of my money. or if theres something left out i can look into

Stewart Stage 2 water pump from ecklers camaro
ACDelco 160 degree thermostat
new 105 amp alternator
BMR strut tower brace
B&M 700R4 Kickdown kit
Transgo Shift Kit
VENOM 400 Performance Control Module
JET stage 2 computer chip
optima battery
high output ignition coil
Wonder bar

on top of all that im also performing a major tune up with performance spark plugs, wires and all that good stuff. changing ALL and EVERY fluid in the car. and everything else under routine maintenence any ideas or opinions or advice would be nice. i just ask for no smart comments or anything as im learning as i go.

and if you need further info as to the website or palce and item to look further into it let me know as i have them all listed down

Re: My mods

If it were me I would definitely go with the wonderbar, strut tower brace and some sub frame connectors I also like the trans upgrades I always think my trans feels sluggish. the first and easy mods are cold air induction and an after cat exhaust system I think a high flow cat would work nice too oh and some headers the best thing to do is pick one area of the Camaro and attack it one area at a time

the jet and venom things are a waste of money
and i dont belive the water pump is the right one for the v6, as far as i know there are no aftermarket pumps available, just stock replacements

Re: My mods

The venom if Im right ( somebody chime in) just leans out your fuel curve so you have to run 93 octane no real performance gain

Ive done a little research and idk if this is right. I've read it doesn't require you to run high octane. It only works under load. If your just cruising like normal it's dormant. It changes the mapping for your fuel and spark to a more agressive mapping then stock. So the spark and fuel gets changed. But if your cars running rich it's going to have an adverse affect (that's what I've read) obviously it's just pumping a little more fuel in and changing the spark. Am i tempted to try it? Yeah. Will I? Probably. And I'llbe sure to right a reveiw on it.

Also any opinions on the I think it's called like tuner pro RT or something? It's cheap and you buy the wire and hook it up straight to ur laptop? Ant succes stories or complications? And really what are it's capabilities?

Re: My mods

I don't know anything specifically about this Venom unit but, most off the shelf computer chips for any car will give you a richer air fuel ratio and will advance ignition timing considerably. However! Its not tuned for your car. It might help a little but custom tuning will come in much better. This is where Tuner Pro RT comes in. Great program! You will need an ALDL cable to read your computer. You will have to do extensive research to learn how to tune the car. And, you will need eprom (chip) burning hardware. Or, you can buy the "osterich" (or I believe theres one or two others available now) that will plug into your computer in place of the chip and then hook to your laptop and allow you to transmit your new .bin file directly vs. burning it to a chip and re-installing the chip in the car. Very nice tools to have but not just plug it in, punch a few buttons, and youre done (unless you have done it for a while!! which, I am still learning, too)

Re: My mods

Almost if not all "chips" you find on the internet will give you little performance upgrade you would almost get more for doing the nickle free mod. Your money is better spent getting the equipment and tunerpro RT to do it yourself OR when you get some performance part on the engine find a place locally that you take your car to them and the design you a personal chip for your car. Heck for just the price of the VENOM 400 Performance Control Module you could have all the equipment and tunerpro is free.

I see a lot of good upgrades but no hardware to increase power. There is only so much you can milk an engine before you need true physical parts to increase it. Not saying go straight for engine parts, the best way to build a car is from the ground up so suspension parts are great and so is the trans kit (basically the same way I'm going). But the chips and tuning really need some parts to do much good, This thread has the best list of performance parts for your v6 (after market parts for 60* motors)

I wouldn't recommend the 160 degree thermostat
Read this (160* Thermostat Do i need a Performance Chip for it??)
plus

An 180 would be much better. The stock is 195.

It's capabilities are far more then the venom could dream of being. The whole chip is open for you to change and edit. Do not be fooled cause it's free, this software is very powerful and a lot of fast cars on here, only use it. Try downloading it and downloading the practice stuff and see how much it offers. Tho it's not a plug and play, you have to learn about your car so you can edit correctly. It will not edit itself for you.
