hello everyone, i have an 85 V6 and i have come to a problem. my car isnt starting.
embarrasding story acually. i was over taking a guy for cutting me off... having a road rage moment, and all of a sudden my car lost all throttle responce. i tryed to down shift, but nothing.... so i pulled off the road. as i slowed down, my car cut out. right about now i'm pissed off... and dont know what to do. i tried starting it for the last few days and it just wont turn over. i did a battery test, and its at about 90%... all my fluids a looking good... i have 1/2 a tank of gas... i am getting it towed home in the morning, and i want totknow what i need to do to get this car running again. mainly becasue its my current daily driver.
i think its my fuel punp, it makes sence in my head. if it is the fuel pump, is it easy to install? if so, can one of you kind people please give me some intruction on the topic.
yeah, any advice will be a huge help. thinks in advance.
it won't turn over or it wont start? if it wont turn over, its far more serious than a fuel pump. if it wont start, a bad fuel pump could be the problem. with the radio and everything turned off, to the key to the on position (not start) and listen for a whining sound, that's the fuel pump. You can also check for fuel pressure at the schrader (sp?) valve on the fuel rail. If the fuel pump is bad, its not the easiest thing to replace. Plenty do-able but, not my idea of fun.

Is there any easy way to replace the fuel pump? Because, for me, I just don't like the idea of removing the coil springs just to turn the tank a certin way to get the tank down.
Do a search on fuel pump access door. Some of us have done that, but the lines are tricky to cut when the tank still in place. It is more of something you do so that the 2nd time isn't nearly so trouble to do.
Yes I believe that is slightly crazy... How do you know that the pump went out if it still makes the noise? Maybe your fuel filter is clogged.
Hard to start, shudders and hesitates when you hit the gas hard but if you rev it while its in park it doesnt shudder or hesitate as much. If I have my car running and someone gets near the tank you can hear a loud hum, a good fuel pump is generally pretty quiet and low psi at the fuel rail. Changed out the fuel filter twice.
I did find out that fuel pumps can be humming and still not provide adequate pressure. And ladys and gents I think thats whats going on with mine.
its definetly your fuel pump my car is doing the very same thing and my fuel pump is bad. im doing mine this weekend and im doing it the easy way by cutting an access panel rather than drop the tank
