| Re: V6 Carnage picture thread This is what happens when your car:
1. Has no air dam and is primarily driven during the hot summer months.
2. Has not had the oil changed in a while before new owner decides to take care of it.
3. Had the oil changed with wrong weight (oops!) because there were no indicators as to what weight oil went into the engine.
4. Has had a tiny bolt nobody has seen before dropped into the #6 cylinder.
This was the #4 piston in my 2.8 back in '04. The engine had been on its way out for a while as a result of constant overheating due to PO knocking/removing 99% of the front air dam off, and tons of crap (but not anywhere near as much as in the pic above) in the lifter valley. When the engine blew, I ran it for 3 seconds before finding out what the HEAVY knocking noise was. Too bad I don't have a pic of the block and oil pan... This bugger blew a 1" x 2.5" hole in the lower edge of the block and oil pan, knocking out the dipstick tube mount. I still have the dipstick and tube as well, along with the lifters I removed. Wish I had kept the pass side exhaust manifold and cylinder heads, though.
:edit: Forgot to mention this was sticking 1/8" out of the cylinder and the crank was locked up tight until this was removed. You may not be able to tell in the pic, but some parts of the piston skirt are missing as well. Don't know where the other piece of the con rod went, though... I had 3 pieces in the garage as keepers, and left the other in the oil pan.
