Re: the n/a motor

Punctuation is a good start. the fiero heads are the exact same as all 85+ 2.8 heads, as well as 3.1 and 3.4 heads. If my memory serves me correctly, the cams are the same as well. search through the posts on here about wanting more power or building up an engine. this has been posted time and time again.

Start with the stickies at the top. Anything involving fwd heads is good reading...

Re: the n/a motor

Hate to break it to you, but if you're wanting to tune these v6's for N/A the best upgrade available is the top end swap to that of a 2000+ model year 3100 or any year 3400, because finding aftermarket engine upgrades for these engines is hard, as next to nobody makes them.
As for the cam it would mainly depend on style of what you have and what you're looking at, ie. hydraulic flat tappet to hydraulic roller would want new lifters, and you may very well have to get new pushrods as well.

FWD stuff is where the power is. I managed to get about 320 HP/300TQ with a cam, headers and a little porting from a '04 3500 V6.

That entire engine will soon be in the '89 in my sig...

On a complete 3500 engine, or a hybrid build with 2.8/3.1 block?
Cause I've been contemplating how much power I'll make after my hybrid build up, I'm getting a 3400 top end and putting it on a 2.8 block, along with a big race cam designed for 3400s, I'm hoping for 250 hp and torque or so, think it'll happen?

With original heads and intake manifold o.O? If so I might hit 300....

Re: the n/a motor

"original" heads...with a lot of porting and polishing. The chassis dyno never showed good numbers for me but I think that was do to other factors. The 1/4 mile times and guestimated weight of the car gave me figures pretty close to what I had guessed at for hp. My best 1/4 mile pass wasn't with the original upper intake manifold.

complete 3500. I had the engine in my Z24 cavalier and ran 13.07 @ 2800lbs weight with a 5 speed.

With the gen3 top end that is possible, if you can afford it i would pick up a set of heads from wot-tech. His ported 3400 numbers are very nice and will make a good bit of difference VS stock heads. Forced Firebird is selling flat tappet cams for the gen1 engines. I'm sure he can hook you up with a custom grind that'll make the best use of the aluminum heads.

a friends 3400 v6 in a '92 Sunbird 5 speed put down 224 WHP / 231 WTQ with some mild ported heads and a .506 lift/270 duration single pattern cam with stock log manifolds. That's 258HP/266TQ at the crank.

Re: the n/a motor

A. you wont be able to make to modifications needed to see 200+ hp and drive the car everyday while you are modding it.
B. to achieve 250 hp n/a, you most likely would need to raise your compression ratio considerably (think 10.5:1 or so). This would not be boost friendly...no paxton down the road unless you lower the CR, again. I had nearly 11:1 compression with custom pistons in my motor, a big cam and I don't claim to have reached 250hp. I think I was fairly close but probably more like 230 for me.

Re: the n/a motor

What engine do you have in this car currently? your post says 3.1, but the info by your name says 3.4. 200 should be attainable with most of the bolt ons, a cam and a tune. Ive got that done, plus a couple other things, but no tune and im probably sitting in the 180s or so. Ive got a ton to gain by a tune since im running so rich right now.
