can my transmission take it

i have a 1989 firebird 2.8l with a stock transmission in it and i was thinking about swapping in a 1999 grand prix 3.8 supercharged motor in. i was just wondering if i would need a new tranmission. i have gotten alot of suggestions about getting a turbo 350, would that fit that motor? any help would be highly appreciated

u will have to get a new tranny because ur 2.8 tranny will not bolt up to a 3.8 v6. I am pretty sure anyway.

Re: can my transmission take it

Thats a FWD engine, you will have to get a trans adapter kit made, so you can use what ever you want.

You can bolt any trans to any engine if you get an adapter.

Re: can my transmission take it

Well pre made ones make sense

You would need a custom made one id bet as it would be easier just
to get a V8 700R4, so id doubt anyone ever made one of those. But if you got cash it can be made.

in the offroad world you will find folks using them allot.

can find dune buggys with anything hanging off the rear of it from a 2.8 to a big old 500 Caddy

Re: can my transmission take it

In general it doesn't matter what bolt pattern or size anything has when you get an adapter kit made. They figure that all in. But a V8 TC will fit a V6 trans n vise versa. Why the V8 guys go after the V6 700 TC from the s10/15 for a cheap way to get a higher stall smaller TC.

But doing all that when its easier to just get a V8 700 is sort of a waste, unless you have some major reason to keep the V6 one.

Re: can my transmission take it

The Essex is a 90 degree engine, so an adapter would be needed. Probably best to grab the Ford trans too if you go that route.

Seems like a lot of work for 210 hp....
