Well the old Dizzy def had issues. I didn't really notice anything inside when I replaced the ICM because its stuffed soo far back. But when I got it out there was more rust on everything and the wires coming out of pickup coil didn't look too good. Def original. See what gets me is the car runs completely fine with EST unplugged. Which is telling me a lot of the stuff is good. Im thinking about running a new white wire from dizzy to ECM. That is the only thing that isn't common to both bypass mode and EST mode. I load tested the wire and it tested ok this is why im not thinking it will help. But i've tried everything else. Do you know what sensors are used to tell the ECM to advance the timing? Ive looked thought every manual I have. I wish I had one on just the ECM and all its logic.
If the wires for the old PU were that bad, it needed to be replaced. I'd still prefer to see pics of the both the new and old ones with the caps off if you can. Either way, you're going to have a heck of a time running a new white wire between the dizzy and the ICM, as the wires in the pass-through are literally cemented in the thing with clear silicone sealant (don't ask how I know this), and even that may not fix the problem if the problem is the new distributor assembly. Which is why I asked for pics.
Well, I don't see a secondary pickup coil (like stock) that would confuse the ECM like the CarQuest reman did in class. That PU seems to be working as it is intended to. Also, the wires seem to be on the module in the right orientation (just check to make sure the green wire is on the inside, towards the dizzy shaft).
What are the numbers on the ECMs? All of them. And the 3-to-4 letter code on the chips inside?
So I contacted the person I bought the car off of to see a little more history on it. I guess after he jump started a car he started to have issues with the car. And after replacing everything from cap, rotor, plugs, and alt he found removing the bypass wire the car ran fine. So I maybe pulling at strings here but Im going to pull every ground that I can find and clean them up. Also maybe im loosing power thought the ECM, When it tries to fire off the dizzy the power dropes off and it's soo quick that my meter doesn't pick it up. What do you all think? maybe try this path?
That could be it, or not... Next time you run the engine with the EST disconnected, check your battery voltage. Should be around 14V running.

Project Raven is on hold... She's a body shell with a rather large collection of parts. 1987 Pontiac Firebird, T-top, 1991 VIN T engine, getting MegaSquirted. 85 T-5 5-Speed manual trans. Hybrid 3100 V6 swap nearly complete, too much body work to do first . Restomod in progress. So many parts to replace, so little money .
When you do the grounds, disconnect the battery and clean those connections, and also the ring on the alternator, and the connections at the starter and the terminal block. The wire from the alternator connects to the terminal block if you can't find it and the stock wiring hasn't been modified.
Ya Im going to pull every wire connection and termination this weekend and clean. Then im going to load test every ground going to the ECM. This will eliminate the wiring. But the code on my Chip is AMBF
I think that BCC chip code is good... Believe I have one in the garage with that code, or at least have seen one. Anyways, also, don't forget that the 2 major ECM grounds will need to be accessed by actually climbing into the engine bay, because they're on the back of each cylinder head (G112 and G118).

AHHH she runs. So I started today thinking I was going to rip apart the entire wiring harness chasing out all the grounds. I opened the hood and started at the battery. Didn't look at the grounds looked at one of the feeds to the ecm, Oh look someone probed the wire. Oh look the wire is pretty much corroded out. Repaired wire thinking that can't be it. Plugged in EST and the car started and ran great No codes. So I decided to check the wiring a little better and found a few more spots that had issues repaired and the car is running great. Installed a new radio rolled down the windows and went for a nice ride enjoying the 55 degree day. Thanks all for the help. I know more about this car then any of my other cars.
