3.4L Dyno Run part 1

ok so today i went and put the car on the dyno to get a rough idea as to what the car was running n/a and at low boost. however the clutch pretty much gave up as soon as it got into boost so these numbers from what i can tell are all motor

174.6hp and 210tq @ 4332 rpms(which is when the clutch slipped) at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle

my full throttle run just blew the clutch out

not great but not to shabby with pretty much 0 boost, and i couldnt get it any higher than those rpms so i still had a lot left. this should give you guys an idea of what the 3.4 is capable of. i was hoping for closer to 200hp and 250tq on motor alone but its close. i wonder if i wouldve gained more if i couldve got the rpms up on it.

the graph shows that its still pulling hard as boost kicks in so who really knows what im gonna get number wise with a clutch and 10-15psi

thats a 41hp and 35tq gain over my 3.1
this is also with a bad exhaust leak and a safe tune

Re: 3.4L Dyno Run part 1

Not bad...

I'm sure the numbers would have been higher if you had been able to go WOT. Besides, if the clutch was giving out at only 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, it obviously wasn't holding well at all before that. Swap that Spec clutch in and redo the N/A numbers. I'm sure they'll be a lot closer to that 200RWHP and 250lb-ft you were hoping for.

DAMN...I'm almost tempted to donate the money you would need for the Spec clutch...ALMOST. LOL! I wish I were made of money...

Re: 3.4L Dyno Run part 1

hp and tq was only at 35% throttle and about 1 psi of boost not even
picture below shows were he got out of it

get a few issues cleared up and u should b looking at around 290ish rwhp and 350rwtq @ 5 psi if not better that car is going to be a beast once the boost gets turned up

u need to get a new dyno guy, seriously the wideband was well into the danger range 18.0 afrs and he still went for the pull.granted something happened and the wideband went out but had it been reading correctly that could have cost u a motor.

\ the car is overly rich and throwing a false lean condition i gota go threw the logs better but they show a 18ms pulse width on 48 pound injectors which shouldnt be so its way rich.

im 90% sure this is form the antirev system settings being way toi strict cause that system actually pretty much makes the motor go dead rich and pulls back timming to kill off power to stop it from revving up. so for now switch back to the defualt-safe.msq file. once u do that u will have to reload the ve and spark tables again use the updated spark and fuel tables the n1 files with the defualt msq file

btw can u post the dyno gaph please

more donatations and less detonation brothers and sisters

the next time it goes on the dyno it will have a clutch and hopefully all the tuning worked out so the next numbers will be more impressive, either way for the problems it had it put out decent numbers with no boost

Just a thought here, and probably a dumb question, but the #s you posted from the dyno are RWP and not crank right? Assuming that is the case then it is actually 200 hp at the crank, and considering the issues that isn't bad..

Yes those are rear wheel numbers, so at the motor they are prob closer to the 200hp and 250tq I was after. However, I want those numbers at the wheels.

Still taking donations for a clutch lol

Re: 3.4L Dyno Run part 1

Well with a somewhat modest drivetrain loss of 15% then it would be 201 at the crank if memory serves, but when I first saw the #s I didn't think of whether or not they were rwp or crank, so worried me a little, but if that's whats reaching the wheels with issues then I have little fear that mine will put out at least what yours did, and that's a relief, because I would be disappointed if I didn't at least have 200 hp out of it.

Re: 3.4L Dyno Run part 1

I'm running a stage 1 spec clutch in my camaro. Engine is a 3.4l v6. I've had it in for about 6 months. I've got nothing bad to say about the clutch, it works great and doesn't slip at wot. For some reason though, the throw out bearing has started making alot of noise, so I will probably have to pull it back down to replace the bearing

Nothing much as far as power goes. The motor is pretty much stock, I do have a flowmaster exhaust which helps a little. Right now I'm concentrating on keeping the car roadworthy as its my daily driver.

Re: 3.4L Dyno Run part 1

Ya, I know its overkill. But I figured, I wanted a good clutch that wouldn't slip, plus I won't have to worry about it when I do start working on the motor. Right now I'm mainly concentrating on fixing all of my suspension and steering, once I get that I'm going to start working on the motor. I was thinking ported heads to start, and some headers.
