Car: 86 camaro berlinetta
Engine: 2.8, soon to be 3.4 w/ turbo plans
Transmission: 700r4(rebuilt in jan. '10
Axle/Gears: stock 3.23 open
Re: 85 Camaro 2.8 V6 Transmission

it came with a 700r4. there is a difference between the v6 and v8 transmission and i believe torque converters. talk with Dave on some of the turbo threads. project89 is his name on here. see what he ran on his turbo 660.

You're better off getting a later model performance built 700R4 if you're interested in boost. Between 87-90, the 700R4 went through several upgrades in the clutch packs. And yes, there is a difference between the V6 and V8 transmissions, in that the V6 trans has a smaller bellhousing and torque converter.

So could you just get a bigger torque convertor and bell housing and use the same tranny with say a 350 or 305?

Bellhousing is NOT removable. You would have to replace the entire case and rebuild from the ground up...

The V8s also have more clutches inside and 31 spline input shaft iirc compared to 28 spline with v6.
