Re: random missfire help please

One of the fuel injectors could be partially clogged... Only way to test would be a balance test.

Just because they're relatively new doesn't mean there is nothing wrong with them. Any random part can fail at any random time in any random manner. Even with only 6K on them, the fuel injectors could still get clogged inlet filter baskets or some debris inside or on the intake end.

Re: random missfire help please

If it doesn't affect the actual driveability of the car, I'd leave it as it is. Mine had a random misfire I chased my tail on for a long time but it ran great on the street with no problems. If you're going to be dropping in a 3.4 anyways, I'd send those injectors (the 3.4 injectors) out somewhere to have them professionally cleaned before you throw that in to avoid any possible problems. Other than that, if you can afford to have the car down for a couple weeks or so, I'd send the injectors to SouthBay or somewhere to be cleaned and tested. It's not cheap, but it's about half the price of new injectors.

That's if the injectors are the problem. Test the resistance of the plug wires. Any wire with a resistance of more than 10K ohms per foot (no more than 20K for the #1 and 2 wires) needs to be chucked. Pull the plugs and check them for proper gap and fouling and any other possible damage. Other than that, without being there to actually test things, there really isn't much more anyone can say.

Whatever Delco plugs the 3.4 came from the factory with and ANYTHING but cheapo bottom of the barrel plug wires that the terminals come off of every time you pull them off of the plugs. As for the cap and rotor, try to find a set with brass terminals.

I keep wondering why everyone insists on spending twice as much money (and sometimes 4x as much) for those crap plugs... It's been proven that those plugs STILL fire on ONLY ONE ELECTRODE, which makes them NO better than the stock $2 a piece Delco plugs. I had a set of those in my car a long time ago thinking they were better and the engine actually ran WORSE with them in... Which is why I still use the cheap copper Delco R43TSK plugs I've been running since 2005...

Re: random missfire help please

When my car was handed down to me there were Bosh platinum 4's and the car ran like complete crap with them in there. I will always use the cheapo delco plugs as they seem to work just fine. We have the delco rapid fires in the "father-son project" S10 blazer and they don't make any difference what so ever over the standard plugs.
