Unless you COMPLETELY BLOCK OFF both parts, you'll run into some extra heat, where you engine bay may not appreciate it.
Incidentally, it will NOT affect your perfomance if it's hooked up.
It enhances the engine exhaust by making it flow thru the system better.
PLUS, I DO LIKE BREATHING, FINALLY, CLEAN AIR IN CA, AFTER WAITING ABOUT 20 YEARS!
Make the EGR system work right, it only helps ya, not hurt ya.

I enjoy breathing every once in a while too. Whats an extra arm or two growing out of your stomache from emittions?
The computer supposedly will lean out the fuel mixture when EGR should turn on. This is because when the exhaust gas re-enters the engine, it richens the exhaust. The computer leans out the air/fuel mixture to compensate. So; there might be some pinging if you unhook the valve.
And that EGR (like Karl said) will only kick on when the car's in a high-speed, low-rpm condition- as in, you're just cruising down the freeway, and don't need any horsepower.
go to www.sethirdgen.org and go to the tech section it has a 2 page article on the EGR valve and says what will happen if u dont use it with a computercontroled car
