Radiator trouble....:(

Oh yes, its finally on the raod, I started driving it saturday. It works beautifully.

Well, today coming home, I look over and the Temp guage is moving faster than my speedo, so I pull over and find there to be a massive crack in the plastic near the top on the passenger side of the rad...Nww I am out hunting for a used rad, seeing how I am a little short on cash. Does anyone know if an S-10 Radiator will fit...

(Just wondering about the S-10 because the front springs fit fine....) lol

You can get cheap one from China.
I know, I have one of those, I inherieted it from the previous ownwer. Saw several proper ones in the wrecking yards, for $20 a pop. I wish I knew if they were good.
I never knew, that all GM 3rd gen proper radiators had a "saw cut mark" in the dead top center of the radiator. I thought that was weird, so I passed.
Grab that other one, it's a great score!!
NO Blazer, may not fit right!

Is a 2.8/3.1 radiator different than one in a 305/350 thirdgen? They look the same to me.

First off, our fans are electric, yours are direct off the engine. I have been looking, and mine is about 27" across, and the V-8 are about 32", so they may look the same, But they are different...

If I am wrong someone correct me...

Edit: I'm not sure about the size of the radiators, but I'll check.

You're wrong. The radiator doesn't care which fan makes the engine has. And I have electric fans dude, wtf?

The v8 fan will fit; I think the hose routings might be different, not sure. I have different hose routings on my '86- my lower hose comes out the driver's side, my upper hose pops out the passenger side. But I hear later model v6's have those switched...

And I think all fuel injected v8's came with electric fans.

There's actually a "cooling system hop-up" for the 82-84 v6's, using junkyard parts. The 82-84 V6 radiators were shorter, an 85-up "longer" one drops right in. You can also put a fan from an 85-up v6 onto the 82-84 v6's... I covered it all in that message a lonnng time ago- crap, I can't find it in a search! Remember? It was that "$0 82-84 mods" message... oh well. If anybody's that interested I could type it up again.

Mine are aluminum and plastic, everybody's should be aluminum, not sure about very early models though.

My friend got a replacment for his '85 v6 and it was copper, but that's because it was just a replacment.

L69's(carbed) and fuel injected v8's had electric fans, some had dual electric fans.

I checked the '85 radiator part numbers on www.partsamerica.com the 4,6,8 engines all have their own numbers for that year.

I looked for a '92 model and some of the radiators come up with the same part number for the 6 and the 8.

I'll check the diminsions tomarrow.

Thanks for clearing up a V-8 Rad will fit.

But, the leak is a 2.5cm crack (1 inch) so Dad brought home a tube of JB weld, that was good for temperatures of over 300 degrees. So I put it on, and now I have a very slow leak. Some time next weekend, I am going to put another coat on over the crack, right now it leaks about a cup every week or so, so I think I am in the clear...

Ok I checked. My friends '85 v6 radiator is a lot smaller than mine on my cars. That makes sense because the part numbers didn't match for the '85. His is a manual mine are automatic, that makes a difference I think.

The shrouds are the same and it lookes like they would interchange with different hoses, maybe even the same hoses. Of course the v6 doesn't have as much cooling capacity.

I don't have a later model v6 to look at though, the one that the part numbers match on.

AFAIK, the only difference between a manual-tranny and auto-tranny radiators are the extra cooler in the side tank. I think all the other specs are the same.
